Netherworld Races

Nov 17, 2009 06:24

This is a fairly comprehensive list of the races found naturally throughout Overlord Baal's Netherworld. It is separated into two categories: humanoid demons and monster demons. The former are generally considered 'job classes' which, theoretically, humanoid demons can join; the latter are beasts whose sentience can range from feral animals to highly intelligent beings.

Although some of these races are considered more powerful than others, that is simply on average; even a demon from the weakest of races can possibly become powerful enough to go toe-to-toe with the more powerful classes. Use this post to help with NPC interactions, whether that may be interacting with castlefolk or wild beasts.

Much of this information is available to the characters themselves, assuming they would like to find it in the castle library.

Humanoid Races

Humanoid races are more like jobs, meaning--theoretically--any demon can join and become a member via hard work. However, due to the longevity of demons, the speed of demon evolution, and other factors, this once broad species of 'humanoid demons' have more-or-less adapted to each individual job class so well that they could very well be considered subspecies.

Archer

More so than any other class, Archers have a dramatic rift between the genders. Females mostly live together in cold towns in the mountains with a strong sense of tradition; as a result of this tradition, they refuse to use anything besides bows and arrows in combat. It is said that over many, many centuries the breasts of these archers shrunk to the point of nonexistence, as breasts got in the way when using bows. They are also skilled at listening to the wind and can deduce its strength and direction accurately.

Male Archers-known as Rangers-have cast off the old traditions completely and have almost entirely moved away from the mountain villages and accept more modern lifestyles. Unlike the tiny female Archers, male Archers tend to be very tall and lanky. The animosity between male and female Archers is so great that each group has spent years developing combat skills to use on the other. Female Archers have also won the yearly award for ‘Most Adorable Demon Race’ for the last 1,756 years.

Barbarian

Barbarians are a beast-like class of demons who thrive on battle; they get a sort of intoxicating ecstasy from combat, whether they win or lose. Barbarians fight by entering a terrifying berserker state where they are incapable of feeling pain and increase their strength dramatically with adrenaline. Many are in a constant state like this, making them likely to lash out spontaneously. It is uncommon to find a Barbarian who is not covered from head-to-toe in scars and flesh patched together.

Although they do not work well in groups due to being incapable of discerning from friend and foe during their berserker state, Barbarians are put to great use by Overlord Baal’s forces as one-man-armies: the terrifying bloodlust and rage of a single Barbarian can immediately demoralize entire groups, angels and demons alike. They are often used as an inexpensive alternative to Majin.

Beast Tamer

Beast Tamers are demons that specialize in the breeding and training of monsters-generally feral and NOT sentient monsters. They live alongside beasts for years and become more accustomed to their company than that of other humanoid demons or sentient monsters and often have short tempers. Through various roars and shouts, they are capable of strengthening monsters. As a result of this, Beast Tamers are employed by Baal to train monsters as well as control them during combat.

Despite training monsters for combat purposes, Beast Tamers are, themselves, quite skilled at combat; they often use bows, spears, and axes. However, many rarely carry weapons as they prefer to make use of Magichange, which was supposedly discovered by a Beast Tamer centuries ago who wished to battle with her monster comrades closer than anyone else had. As the legend goes, the she taught her beasts to transform into weapons and from then on Magichange became standard for Beast Tamers.

Celestial Host

[NOTE: Celestial Hosts do NOT exist in Overlord Baal’s Netherworld]
‘Celestial Host’ is a catchall term for the angelic forces used in Celestial worlds. Though there are as many numerous classes of angels as there are demons, they possess many standard qualities: nearly every angel possesses healing magic of some sort, most-as a result of a more thorough education system-possess some level of magical skill, and can fly as a result of their large wings. The wingspan and number of wings an angel possesses tend to be a good indication of their rank, as both the size and number are proportional to an angel’s spiritual power.

Celestial Hosts possess a fierce dedication that can rival any demon’s fury. They believe in the absolute righteousness of the angels and the Seraphim, and will fight to the death against the forces of Overlord Baal. It is no exaggeration to say that Aether-the Celestial World parallel to Baal’s Netherworld-has survived the decades-long war solely due to the dedication, bravery, and skill of the Celestial Hosts.

Cheerleader

Despite at first appearing to be nothing but attractive, bouncy (in more ways than one), scantily clad girls cheering on others, Cheerleaders may actually possess some sort of powers over blessings. When a Cheerleader is doing her thing, other demons become capable of running, jumping, throwing, fighting, and defending far better than they ever were capable of doing so without the Cheerleader’s presence; of course, this may only be due to their attractive, bouncy, scantily clad cheering and not any sort of magic, but the truth is unknown and very confusing.

Like Sorcerers, Cheerleaders are used to great effectiveness in Baal’s Army. They use their aforementioned cheering skills to empower allied forces, allowing them to overcome odds they would otherwise not have been capable of if the Cheerleaders were not present. They are also quite popular with many soldiers, though the reasons for that may be obvious. Though not very good at combat themselves, Cheerleaders are known to carry guns for self defense; whether it’s defense from the opposing army forces or defense from excited fans, though, we are still unsure.

Druid

Druids are wisemen who have dedicated their lives to the power of Star, which is, partly, derived from the powers of the planet and stars; as a result, they possess the power to change the geography of the area: they can raise or lower the earth, move land, and other sorts of geomancy. For reasons, which may be related to the power of Star, they are capable of learning healing magics with little effort.

The Netherworld Army uses Druids to manipulate the land of the battlefield along with making use of Geo Effect to confuse, panic, and weaken their opponents. Though all Druids are old in appearance, this is due to the crystal in their forehead: it amplifies their power at the cost of aging their appearance. Some may, in fact, be young as a result and skilled in hand-to-hand combat.

Gunslinger

Guns are an uncommon weapon in the Netherworld, where technology lacks in comparison to the Human World. However, as a result of human visitors and invasions of the Human World, certain demons have found a strong affinity towards guns. These Gunslinger, unlike most other fighters, avoid close combat and opt for long-distance battle; their concentration rivals that of Mages and they are capable of hitting targets from a great distance. Naturally, Overlord Baal’s army has recently began recruiting Gunslingers to work as-what else?-snipers.

Gunslingers tend to be loners as it is far easier for them to engage in combat when alone rather than in groups; however, a Gunner occasionally finds someone worth their trust, allows that someone to watch their back, and will protect that person with everything they can.

Healer

Healers do as their title describes: they heal others. Historical records suggest Netherworld Healers were aware of the elements and magic before Vyramid the sage proved their existence. The first Healers were Fallen Angels; Angels, by nature, were skilled with healing magic while demons-with some very minor exceptions-were completely incapable of learning to use such powers on their own. Though demon beliefs originally abhorred the concept of healing magics-mostly the result of the animosity between the Netherworlds and the Celestias-they were quickly accepted when demons were actually capable of learning to use them; today, those born with Healer skills are thought to possess the blood of those Fallen Angels. With the benefits being obvious, Overlord Baal’s Army employs many healers.

Though the beliefs have changed for the most part, some Healers-predominantly males-still hold to the old traditions and consider healing others a bad sin; as a result, they wear barbed clothes to inflict pain on themselves to repent for the pain they are alleviating from others. Most healers do not practice this, however, as they believe healing others is necessary and nothing that goes against demon nature.

Heavy Knight

These fighters are trained in Netherworld Academy to be fiercely strong and self-reliant members of the Netherworld’s army and the castle’s guardsmen. They sacrifice much in speed and agility, but their nearly impervious armor and muscles more than make up for the loss. They also tend to favor spears for their defensive-oriented fighting style and increased range.

Heavy Knights are trained as squires and learn various skill beyond fighting, such as etiquette and the arts. Despite their fearsome appearance, they are honorable, dedicated, and possess a strong code of morals; most are incredibly loyal to Overlord Baal and strive for the greatest honor of becoming a Deva.

Mage

While most other classes use physical power, Mages use spiritual power; this requires great concentration. Mages tend to be frail for demons as they spend most of their time studying tomes and texts rather than training in the battlefield. Most Mages tend to concentrate on studying one of the three well-known elements in Baal’s Netherworld: fire, water, and wind. Some of the more skilled are capable of using the mysterious Star magic.

The materials used to make their uniforms are made to enhance their control over magic, specifically the flow of spiritual elements from both within and outside the mage. Their magic studies are based heavily on the ancient sage Vryamid who, millennia ago, first studied magic in the Netherworld. Male Mages are often referred to as ‘Skulls’ and female Mages as ‘Witches’. Though physically frail, Mages in Overlord Baal’s army are greatly respected for the damage they can cause individually, often rivaling that of an entire squad of Warriors.

Magic Knight

Only one female demon in a hundred can become a Magic Knight, also known as ‘Rune’ Knights or ‘Space’ Knights; the quality which makes these demons unique is the fact they possess a rare power known as ‘The Zone’, which supposedly allows them to see into the past and future along with manipulating the elements. They are scholars and study magic, swordsmanship, and the sciences.

Magic Knights, though rare, are often employed in Overlord Baal’s army as commanders or in special small units used to counter larger forces. Their knowledge, dependability, loyalty, and raw talent have given forces of the Lord of Terror many victories they otherwise would not have had.

Majin

[NOTE: Majin are only to be NPC'd by moderators unless given special permission.]
Unlike the other humanoid classes, no demon can train to become a Majin. One in a million demons are born as a Majin, possessing an incredibly strong body and mind. As a result of their rarity and power, the Dark Assembly and Overlord Baal consider them a rare resource: when one is born, the family is slaughtered and the child taken and trained to become an elite warrior; they are often used as literal one-man armies, as they are capable of crushing entire fighting forces by themselves.

Majin are capable of mastering anything they are assigned to, whether this be a particular fighting style, weapon, or magic. Because they are trained from birth to know nothing but battle, their only enjoyment is gained from fighting and they believe the weak have no right to exist. Even the strongest of demons will run at the sight of a Majin; on a related note, if a Majin is sighted, then one can be sure something incredibly important is happening in the area.

Martial Artists

Martial Artists originally came from the outskirts of the Netherworld and, according to myth, their skills are descended from a legendary human martial artist who came to the Netherworld to train and test his skills. Like Warriors, they are some of the most common classes in the Netherworld and make up a large portion of Overlord Baal’s forces. Though very common as footsoldiers, there are many in ranks of command.

Martial Artists wield no weapons and opt to use their fists alone; they use a combination of ‘Fists’-armored gloves, gauntlets, or armguards-and their own battle aura to fight against blades and bullets. They wear little armor and rely nearly entirely on their speed, attack, and physical stamina to battle; their stamina is so great that, even when bloodied and bruised to a point that would fell any other demon, they are capable of fighting on.

Ninja

Ninja were born from the darkness of the Netherworld; they are peerless in their agility, dexterity, and stealth. They tend to be used as either bodyguards or assassins and will do as they are ordered by their master or employer without hesitation and to the best of their abilities; they have a strict code of honor and loyalty. Ninja are often used by Overlord Baal’s forces for not only assassinations, but for reconnaissance as well.

Female Ninja are referred to as Kunoichi. They use their attractive bodies to seduce targets, giving them the opportunity to kill them easily or get information from them. Both male and female Ninja are skilled at ‘ninpo’, a group ancient Ninja arts which range from special fighting techniques to spirit-based abilities that inflict various conditions such as paralysis and poisoning.

Samurai

As strange as it may be to hear, Samurai are protectors of holy lands in the Netherworld. These bizarre demons are dedicated to loyalty, pride, and purity; though demons with these sort of alien qualities tend to be harassed, maimed, and killed by the other demons of the Netherworld, Samurai are not for the simple fact that they are powerful and skilled with blades, bows, and axes. Through their sheer power they are capable of living freely and following their belief system known as ‘Bushi Road’ without fear. Many demons actual respect them for their complete lack of fear and their ferocity and power.

Many Samurai live as bodyguards or exorcists. The females-sometimes referred to as Shrine Maidens or ‘Miko’-are particularly skilled at exorcism. As a result of Baal’s influence over many millennia, many Samurai consider him to be a holy being, some going so far as to look at him as God.

Sinner

These are demons that have committed grievous, unspeakable crimes and have been judged for them. As punishment to repent for these sins, they are put to work as gladiators and unpaid soldiers; they are often given tasks with high mortality rates. They are never given weapons and are forced to fight with only their fists and the chains binding their limbs.

What constitutes a sin needing punishment is unknown, especially due to demons’ typical love for crime and violence. The sins Sinners have committed might simply have been actions which personally offended aristocrats, such as the Senators or Scrooge McDood. Those who go too far in disgracing or criticizing Overlord Baal may find themselves in the position of Sinner.

Sorcerer

Sorcerers wield mysterious, ancient magics that do not cause direct damage to targets, but target the spiritual wellness of them and cursing them with bad luck; using strange chant rituals, they are capable of inflicting many types of debilitating effects such as poisoning, depravity, and paralysis along with weakening a person’s physical and spiritual strength as well as their accuracy and speed. Despite being tiny and somewhat adorable, they are often shunned by other demons, as a Sorcerer’s mere presence has become associated with spreading bad luck.

Despite the animosity towards them from the rest of the army, Sorcerers, like Cheerleaders, are used to great effect by Baal’s forces. If hidden, they can curse groups of targets, debilitating them for no noticeable reason; if seen by the targets, morale can drop without the Sorcerer actually doing anything. However useful, many commanders refuse to have them in their forces due to fears of giving bad luck to their own soldiers.

Thief

Stealing is an officially recognized advanced technique in the Netherworld as well as a completely legitimate job. In fact, The Thieves’ Guild is one of the largest organizations in the Netherworld. Thieves are very common and range widely in skill. Many make use of special gloves with suction paws to help when swiping things. Occasionally, thieves are paid to perform reconnaissance or sabotage targets in the Netherworld Army.

The most skilled thieves are capable of stealing intangible objects, such as a person’s health (leaving the target ill), a person’s consciousness (leaving the target asleep), or even particular aspects of a person’s personality; how this works exactly is unknown. In the Netherworld, there is one thief greater than any other known as the ‘King of Thieves’ and although he is supposedly the head of the Thieves’ Guild, no one has apparently seen him. Ever.

Warrior

Like Martial Artists, these are one of the most common classes of demon; their skills are focused predominantly around strength, defense, stamina, and speed and they often use swords, spears, bows, and axes in battle. To become a true Warrior, one must make a contract with the God Grandell, a powerful Overlord. They prefer to harden their own bodies and only wear light armor to allow for greater mobility.

Their lives tend to be filled with intensive training beneath a retired and experienced Warrior; as a result, many tend to respect others stronger than themselves. Female Warriors tend to be a bit more rare and are often referred to as Valkyries. Most of Overlord Baal’s lowest-ranking soldiers and guardsmen are Warriors, but they are fully capable of raising through the ranks just as any other class.

Monster Races

Each monster race is a specific species; in each species, there are subspecies which vary somewhat, though generally these differences are not important enough to mention. While monster races constitute the 'animal' population of the Netherworld, not all are mindless and feral like beasts: they are capable of being just as intelligent and sentient as anyone else; as a result, they are considered ordinary citizens as much as humanoid demons are and seeing these demon races in towns, stores, or in places of power--such as the Dark Assembly--is not unusual at all.

Aqua Demon

Aqua Demons live underwater in lakes, swamps, rivers, and the seas. Although they lack eyes, they have coral-like protrusions over their body capable of detecting minor changes in the air, electric currents, and water. They conduct electricity through their body similarly to how other demons conduct spiritual energy and are capable of using this electricity offensively. Many Aqua Demons are either resistant or entire immune to ice and are thought to have evolved from frogs.

Eryngii

These are animate mushrooms. There is little to be said for this species of fungus. They are a very common demon regularly hunted as a delicacy, the medicinal properties of their spores, and the pheromone-like effects of some species’ spores on women; Eryngii are the typical ingredient in love potions. They make great use of their spores in battle to give opponents a wide range of ailments and to weaken female opponents with their pheromones. They are generally very weak and live in a large group in an attempt to compensate, which doesn’t really work very well. They like damp places, such as caves or the back of your fridge. For some strange reason, they have a speech tic like Prinnies: they often tack on 'gii' to sentences.

Flora Beast

These are demons which evolved from plants-specifically, carnivorous plants; their cute, pretty appearance is a trap to lure their prey. Their appearance is something of particular importance to this race: some Flora Beasts are so shy that they refuse to show their face while others make use of their appearance to literally seduce prey and enemies, similar to Succubi. Another concern in regards to their appearance is the fact that, to non-Flora Beasts, the males and females of the species are nearly indistinguishable from one-another.

As is fitting for plants, Flora Beasts fight with thorns, leaves, and roots. They also have a strong elemental affinity towards wind and often use the element in battles to spread their various pollens; the species have a resistance to magic in general. They are one of the very few demon races that learn healing-type spells naturally, several unique to their species.

Dragon

Dragons are one of the most powerful clans of demons as well as some of the most well known, existing in Celestial Worlds and Human Worlds as well as the Netherworld. Angels often summon them to assist them in battle and in the Human World, humans often regard Dragons as Gods as a result of their massive strength and mystical powers. They battle using their fangs and claws as well as various types of breath attacks. Dragons range widely in size, from anywhere between half a dozen feet to several dozen feet tall.

Ent

Also known as ‘Wood Golems’. While enormous and incredibly powerful, many Ents are gentle creatures. They can tower as high as dozens of yards and tear the land itself apart with their power. Ents were spawned from ancient trees that took humanoid form to protect themselves; as a result, they are known as the kings of trees and the protectors of nature. Though usually gentle, if they believe nature is endangered, they will use all their might and fury to protect or avenge it. Unlike trees, they do not whither and many Ents are thousands of years old.

Entei

These are the strongest of all the dragon clans and sometimes known as ‘Great Wyrms’. They are a rarity in the Netherworld and it is highly recommended, when encountering an Entei, to escape as quickly as possible. They possess unequaled stamina and strength amongst the demon races. Hunting Entei was once considered an impressive act of power and skill, leading to them becoming rare. Entei are known to live in the Cave of Ordeals. They are violent and their powers can raze an entire countryside with ease. On average, any Entei tends to be roughly equal to a Demon Lord in power and it is not uncommon for one to rise to the level of Overlord in a Netherworld.

Felynn

Also known as ‘Kit Cats’ or 'Nekomata', Felynn are a clan of tomboys skilled in a unique martial arts equal to that of many Martial Artists. Supposedly, they are-or were originally-evolved from cats that wandered into the Netherworld and accumulated great spiritual power. Like cats, they are troublemakers and enjoy causing mischief. Surprisingly, they get along well with the Succubi and are often seen talking to them.

Their fur is actual, genuine fur and part of their body; Felynn often shed it when the weather becomes too hot. Due to a combination of their attractive, voluptuous bodies and adorable cat ears, the Felynn have fans all across the Netherworld.

Holy Dragon

This is quite possibly the most bizarre of all demon races in that they are the least demon-like: rather than being chaotic and praising bad deeds, Holy Dragons have a sense of honor and justice more similar to that of Celestians. Some theories suggest that Holy Dragons were once a race of beings that lived in Celestia and, for whatever reason, migrated into the Netherworld; other theories suggest they were once the Evil Dragon Clan and, due to interactions from Celestians, mended their dark ways and became arbiters of justice.

Holy Dragons possess great power; they are speedy, capable of flying long distances with ease, possess great control over elemental water, and-as is expected for a race so similar to the Celestians-have some of the greatest healing abilities. They are very resilient to magic and, despite their kind nature, are capable of being quite ferocious if they deem it necessary. Some human cultures worship Holy Dragons as symbols of God.

Marionette

Marionettes are the cast-away, unwanted toys of children from the Human World that found their way into the Netherworld; via forbidden dark magic they gained life. Marionettes are capable of disassembling and reassembling their body parts, though they sometimes have trouble putting themselves back together. They often pretend to be ordinary toys and use their disarming appearance to surprise their targets and attack with their body parts and knives. They have a habit of targeting children.

Mystic Beasts

These are the speediest of all demons. Due to their reclusive nature and skill at avoiding detection, this race was considered a myth for centuries and only relatively recently were discovered by Netherworld scientists. Mystic Beasts ride the winds and are capable of using them to their advantage, such as incorporating wind in their attacks and using it to help camouflage themselves; they also use the enormous horn, rumored for its magical and healing properties, as a weapon. Unlike most demons, Mystic Beasts have a strong sense of family and closely protect their young while teaching them how to fend for themselves.

Nosferatu

Vampires. Nosferatu are famous and feared in the Human World, where they are incapable of living in sunlight safely. They subsist on the blood of others. They have great strength and speed along with several unique powers, such as transforming into bats, wolves, or smoke. Although they are unaffected by sunlight in the Netherworld, they still possess their other weaknesses, such as an aversion towards garlic and weakness to holy objects.

Orc

Orcs are a very common monster in the Netherworld. They live in large families and societies with a strict caste system, making them follow orders without recourse; this can extend to non-Orcs, assuming the individual has somehow earned their respect. Despite their small size, Orcs are hot-blooded, proud, and possess great strength; they wield clubs nearly the size of their own body and can juggle opponents much larger than themselves with ease.

Being easily manipulated, Overlord Baal’s Army employs great numbers of Orcs, generally as foot soldiers and cannon fodder. Despite this, their population is still impressive. Orcs are often referred to as ‘Petite Orcs’, which they dislike; they are also well-known to be notorious perverts.

Prinny

Prinnies are the most famous of all Netherworld residents. They are not actually demons: they are the souls of sinful humans, demons, and angels placed into strange bodies and forced to repent for their sins through hard work; once they repent, they can either ascend to the true afterlife or be reincarnated. This event occurs during the Red Moon, a rare phenomenon.

Prinnies exist in all the Netherworlds and Celestias. Although they are the spirits of dead individuals, most do not retain their memories or personalities from their past lives and take on a common, default personality; however, individuals who were strong in life often retain their powers, personality, and memories with clarity. Prinnies average roughly one hundred centimeters tall, but can vary slightly.

Unless possessing the spirit of someone powerful, Prinnies are weak and easily terrified. They are at the very, very bottom of the Netherworld food chain and are often used to perform the most menial and shameful of jobs. They are capable of becoming strong, but…it is rare. Supposedly, in the Land of Carnage, there is a clan of Prinnies who are actually respectable warriors. Two unique qualities Prinnies possess that everyone is aware of: they have a verbal tic causing them to say ‘dood’ every so often when speaking and they explode when thrown.

Rifle Demon

Out of all the races in the Netherworld, there are few clans considered more vicious, terrible, and horrifying than the race known colloquially as the Rifle Demons: The Baciels. Many, many millennia ago, this race of demon invaded and conquered a human civilization and used the human technology to evolve themselves and give them greater power along with their trademark arm cannon. The Rifle Demons are constantly finding ways to empower themselves further; it is suggested that they will not rest until the Baciel Clan is at the top of the Netherworld food chain.

Rifle Demons’ height can range from anywhere between half a dozen feet to several stories tall. Regardless of their size, each one is incredibly heavy, being weighed down by dense muscle mass and technology. They are incredibly accurate with their powerful arm cannon and are fully capable of decimating entire groups of demons on their own. It is highly suggested that if one is to encounter a Rifle Demon, one should run like crazy!

Roc

Supposedly long ago, a mad scientist created a bizarre chimera-a combination of an enormous, fat chicken and a snake-and somehow the beast escape the lab and, with its scientifically enhanced rate of reproduction, quickly grew a population to rival that of any other species. Naturally, this has lead to a common demon pastime of hunting the beasts to keep their population in check. Despite its hideous appearance, they are quite proud of their looks.

The Roc fight in several ways: one, by kicking up whirlwind-like storms of wind and dust; two, by biting, headbutting, clawing, or pecking the target; three, using the various toxins produced by the snake portion of the chimera, which can cause everything from poisoning to amnesia. It is said these creatures have the ability to cause bad luck and are generally consider bad omens; their presence does seem to cause the abilities of others to worsen, but whether this is some sort of magic or the paranoia causing the bad luck is unknown.

Serpent

Serpents are masters of the land, sea, and air: as their shark-like appearance suggests, they can swim through water with amazing speed and grace, but they are capable of digging through soil and flying through the air with the same speed and grace. Serpents are fierce, violent, territorial, and some of the most dangerous demons in the Netherworld. They attack with their fangs, blade-like wings, and talons. Like sharks, they are capable of sensing blood from miles away, whether in the air or in the water.

Slime

This race of demon is bizarre and sticky. Slimes envelop their prey with their entire bodies and use their acidic fluids to eat away at it. They are capable of controlling the stickiness of their bodies so that they can either attach themselves to something or bounce around; as a result, the slime trail left behind by these creatures can either be sticky or incredibly slippery. Due to their moist nature, Slimes do not do well in warm climates where they will dehydrate or in cold climates where they will freeze. They are very resilient to physical attacks, but weak to magic.

Spirit

Spirits are, quite simply, ghosts; specifically, they are the sinful ghosts of demons, angels, and humans who failed to become Prinnies and are cursed to wander the Netherworld for eternity-either that or haunt the Human World for all eternity. In both the Netherworld and the Human World, troublesome Spirits are often exorcised by priests and priestesses.

According to the Netherworld census, Spirits are the most common class of monster. As far as their powers go, they are capable of becoming intangible, possessing others, and collecting the spiritual energy around them and manipulating it; they can levitate objects as well as learn various magic abilities. They tend to be attracted to Mages, other magic users, and people with strong spirits, likely due to the fact these individuals possess impressive Mana and Spirits are made up of pure Mana.

Succubi

Succubi are an all-female demon clan known to seduce men at night to feed on their souls. Over millennia, most succubi have evolved large breasts to help seduce men, but stronger ones are capable of shifting the shape and appearance of their bodies to fit the tastes of the men they attempt to seduce. Surprisingly, they get along well with the Felynn and are often seen talking to them.

Do not assume Succubi are slouches in battle: for whatever reason, they possess great magical power that they use to absorb the spirit from enemies and cast powerful fire magic. They are also one of the few demon races that learn healing spells on their own. Though preoccupied with sexuality and troublemaking, they are quite intelligent.

Surt

Surts are incredibly powerful fire elemental creatures, rumored to be homunculi created by an unknown alchemist centuries ago. They are loners and prefer to live out their lives in solitude; they are generally calm, serene creatures, but if angered for whatever reason-such as trespassing on their territory-they will become enraged; this rage will not stop until their energy is expended, which will likely be after the surrounding countryside, cave or city has been razed entirely to the ground.

Undead

The Undead or ‘Zombies’ are common monsters in the Netherworld. They are slow and often hated because of their smell. Most humans who die in the Netherworld become Undead; due to their brains rotting, most are dumb, but some retain their intelligence. They are feared in the Human World for their durability and brain-eating diet, but by demon standards, they are typically at the bottom of the chain of power; however, there are some Undead known as ‘Zombie Kings’ who possess powers equal to Demon Lords or Overlords. Despite being hated by most, there are some Undead fanatics who obsess over the monsters.

Warcat

Also known as ‘Catsabers’; these are adorable creatures, but do not let their appearance fool you: they are incredibly conniving, violent, dirty demons that make full use of their cute appearance to manipulate others. However, even those who know this are often victims to their charms. Though they prefer to manipulate others into protecting them, Warcats are fully capable of fighting on their own using their claws and, strangely, fish to great effect. Even in battle they are adorable, making use of battle cries consisting of ‘nya’, ‘myu myu’, and various other sounds. It seems everything they involve themselves in makes them more adorable-how can such a dangerous creature exist?

Winged

‘Winged’, also known as 'Moth Men', are a class of large moth-like creatures. Between their speed and agility, they possess some of the greatest mobility of all the demons in the Netherworld. Because of this, they are often used as couriers to quickly deliver packages and mail between people. The dust on their wings can cause various ailments, such as poisoning, sleep, or paralysis. Winged are timid creatures that generally come out at night.

Zombie Dragon

Sometimes, a dragon’s power is so great that it is present even after death; if this is the case, then a Zombie Dragon is born. Often, this reincarnation of sorts causes the Dragon to lose its knowledge, personality, and ordinary powers, but in return gains access to a dark, otherworldly power; they are terrifyingly durable and are capable of taking immense punishment without falling. Since they do not reproduce like ordinary demons, Zombie Dragons are quite rare. Luckily, despite their power, they are quite slow, so escaping from one should be relatively easy.
