Background: Vanessa is one of seven Witches, each representing one of the elements that make up the world of Shtraberl. Vanessa, in particular, represents the element of fire and goes by the name of Witch of Immolation or Immolation Witch.

She is first introduced in chapter four in the town of Carwee. She attacks the player’s group. This group consists of a squad of knights named the Garden Children raised with the specific task of defeating Witches in the name of the Luminous Church and God: the characters included are Alph (the main character), Theo (Alph’s brother), Leon (the son of a famous hero), Cecille (a church cleric), Heath (a veteran knight and their commander), and Lucia (their maid and also the Dawn Witch, representing the element of light).

Vanessa had come to the town with the purpose of collecting the Water Lapistier in the hands of the Garden Children. A Lapistier was one gem in a total of seven (each made to correspond to each Witch and element) capable of bestowing incredibly magical power to the wielder and strongest in the hands of their partner Witch.

While she attempted to sneak into the town, her bright clothes and loud mouth simply lead the Garden Children to learn that she was a Witch and, being confronted, she opted to fight them rather than run. She, along with her two familiars Gul and Gal, were defeated; she intended to use the Wind Lapistier to wipe out the town, but, after knocking down Lucia, Alph leaped to attack Vanessa in her defense. Here, Alph exhibited a strange power and Vanessa realizeed he is a ‘Rym’, a reincarnation of one of the ancient dragons that once fought alongside the witches hundreds of years ago. Lucia’s goal of infiltrating the Garden Children had been for the express purpose of locating a Rym.

Having this information now, she decided to spare everyone and leave. Afterwards, the group learned that Vanessa had attacked and defeated a military stronghold known as the Eurus Knights, who had been in possession of the Wind Lapistier up until then.

The next mention of Vanessa is when the group visits the port town of Ridget, which she supposedly attacked. No one was killed, however, partly due to another person casting a healing spell to protect the populous.

In the next town, on the other side of the ocean, Vanessa encountered the group at a bar. She was drinking all by herself, which was apparently not very womanly according to the others. She attacked them again, intending to kidnap Alpha, but was defeated by the group, which now included Saki (a ninja and spy) and Nikolai (A witch researcher). She cast a spell intended for Alph, but accidentally hit Theo instead. Alph struck her. With the wound along with her magic being depleted, she left. The spell was one intended to awaken a Rym’s power. Theo, being Alph’s brother, was also a Rym.

Later, Vanessa attacked the mining town of Dotruvar. Here, humans were in possession of the Fire Lapistier and had been using it for over a century to assist them in their blacksmithing businesses. When the Garden Children-now renamed as God’s Fatal Hounds-found the Lapistier, Vanessa struck and stole it. In the process, she realized that Theo was a Rym and attempted to convince him to join her.

Lucia and another witch, Mavi, interrupted the argument and began their own argument with Vanessa. Here it’s revealed that Vanessa was acting under her own actions and the leader of the Witches, Lady Claire, had a much more peaceful plan to help the world. Vanessa, however, thought her actions were far too slow and thought the world wouldn’t last until Claire’s plan would work. She attempted to convince Mavi to join her, but the other Witch wouldn’t have any of it and was furious about Vanessa’s disrespect towards their leader.

Vanessa took the Fire Lapistier and teleported away.
