aww it's really nice to see 'em together!!! rip harold ramis T_T
i think... seeing them together and then seeing the new cast makes my heart ache. (and the old cast doesn't seem all that convincing that the new movie is anything good)
out of all the fandoms i've loved, the gbs holds The Most special place for me. it inspired many dreams and goals. and the old fan community was one of the most wonderful fan places i felt glad to be a part of (even passively :P). sheila paulson, whose fiction writing i hold in such great esteem, wrote stories about the rgb that moved folks to tears. they moved my soul. guided my youth and morals. it may sound strange to say all these about a fictional fandom - but that's the power of fiction. a well crafted universe can inspire so much.
look at how the old fans have loved the fandom for an f-ing 30 years. 30 YEARS. people are still cosplaying gbs today. the gb fans loved the fandom so much they revived the dead cartoon and got in into a box set. resuscitated wonderful comic book adaptations with new stories and really incredible tributes to both the movies and the cartoon (which was an excellent continuation of the movies). everyone still knows the friggin' theme song! classic is a friggin' understatement.
so it makes my heart ache to see hollywood reboot yet another much beloved fandom. suddenly pseudo-hipsters worldwide will be claiming they've been fans of the original gbs forever, and that makes me sad. like a long-held secret has been lost and grabbed by greedy masses.
i admit i don't have much hopes for the new film either. i respect kristen wiig and kate mckinnon, don't really know leslie jones and i'm not really a big fan of melissa mccarthy... i'll try the movie out, but this will never be the gbs as their old fans know them. it's just like how the extreme ghostbusters, while was indeed pretty awesome in terms of plot, could never replace the camaraderie and beautiful universe that the gb movies and the rgb fandom built. it felt sad watching peter and egon be old in the EGB era, and it'll probably feel even sadder watching the original gbs cameo in this new film.
