i just want to gush a little about shinedown. while i've had my days of loving bands that had simply great music (e.g. savage garden, linkin park), now i seem to be searching not only for bands that have great music, but also inspirational stories. (warning: the stuff i'm gushing about are all old songs, actually :P)
my chemical romance is one - gerard way's journey to soberness is a touching story of brotherhood and friendship. and since then, i think the band hasn't looked back - they are fresh and always impressively creative ;)
now... shinedown has got to be the second one that strikes me so. not only are their lyrics profoundly meaningful, but their sound is just... kickass awesome. also, brent smith has had a similar journey to soberness, but brought about by the birth of his son.
now, three of my all time favourite songs include if you only knew, second chance and the crow and the butterfly (which i've posted before). not that the rest of the sound of madness isn't kickass either - i really love practically all the songs, except for devour, which is a tad noisy for me. listen to the rest
here.
first of all my all-time favourite,
if you only knew. i think it is... very sweet that for a guy who said he would never write a love song, he apparently wrote this song for the mother of his son. the lyrics are poignant (but admittedly, i don't think very much of the video).
then here's
second chance - c'mon, how can you NOT like a song that sings about the man in the moon that disappears in the stratosphere!? (ok, i'm kidding, the song is much deeper than that) the message in the song is heartfelt, and i really like the way the band members give their slight, knowing smiles of approval when the girl boards the bus.
oh, what the heck, it's my blog and i can embed the crow & the butterfly again if i damn well wish :P and i damn well wish. here! another poignant piece (inspired from a dream!? that's crazy genius) yay, the embedding for this one still works :D

but i also found
this video - i quite like the guitar in sound of madness, the titular song of the album - which i had to watch twice to understand what it showed. a solid creative video - see if you're as slow as i am in figuring it out :D!
i never really liked panic! at the disco - the lead's voice and the song titles sounded a lot like fall out boy - and i hadn't too great an impression of fall out boy. (now reading their history, i see that they've had a lot of shared history together, too)
but this song changed my mind. now its awesomeness is on repeat :P

for the video - i love the nod to zombieland (the rules), the theatrics, and the storyline of the video is pretty good. and i mean, i have no idea what the lyrics mean, but the song is just so catchy!!!
and as i said, read a little on their history - and i must say that i have gone from 0 respect to respecting PATD quite a bit. it was a tough journey to the state they are in now, especially for the lead singer.
and an extra goodie: this is the most dissonant image of a group of singers and voices i've seen in a long while. these guys look like chinpira, actually hahaha. ok, just ONE looks like that, and the other two look a little endearingly geeky. but aren't their voices amazing!?
