Moving sucks

Left work at noon yesterday, got a UHaul, and moved the majority of my furniture to the new house. Gah, I hate moving. I spent two and a half years settling into this apartment, stowing stuff in all the appropriate nooks and crannies, arranging it to be out of the way, and now I have to collect it all, sort it, and pack it into tidy little boxes in a matter of a few weeks. This is not fun. In fact, it really sucks. If I'm lucky, next time I can afford to pay someone else to do it for me. If I'm really lucky, there will only be one more "next time."

Ended up leaving behind a computer desk and a little ordinary desk (a computer would fit on it, though). If anyone would like them, let me know. You can have them if you come get them. They're not in bad shape, but they didn't fit on the truck, and I didn't want them bad enough to justify paying mileage for a second trip. I was planning to replace them anyways with a nifty Ikea modular desk system thingie, so I'm just accelerating that plan now.

Still have a bunch of little stuff that I didn't get boxed up in time to make it onto the truck. I still have until the end of the month, but I'm all stressed out about it. At least the bulk of everything is out now, though, so it should be much easier to get what's left. Then cleaning so I can avoid being charged too much for apartment damage (or maybe even get part of my original deposit back). I still need to find a copy of my initial receipt, as I can't remember if I paid the last month's rent upon moving in. Just got a new property management company last month, and I have no confidence that they'll get anything right.

Otherwise, things are pretty good, though a lot of things are waiting until after the move to continue. Toph is adorable, and really developing his speech. Dustin is starting to open up a little more and socialize, though it's still a slow process. Stacy is still wonderful, of course, and has been a godsend during the move. I've even had a better relationship with my mother lately than usual, which is different enough to be downright weird.

SCA is progressing slowly as I concentrate on moving, but barring unforseen catastrophe, I'll stop by and hopefully finish my shield tonight, and maybe drag along my other bits of armor to get them ready for some fighting this weekend at Egils. Cam is... Cam. I continue to see new forms of arrogance and idiocy even after all this time, but at least it doesn't surprise me any more. Starting on membership handbook revisions this far in advance of actually needing it in print has let me adjust wording to address people not understanding the rules as they happen, which I think will help make a better finished product.

The only thing not going all that well is work, and even that's only temporary. After thinking about it, it would be cheaper for them to give me the time I need to get the rest of the way up to speed at this point than it would be to hire someone else and start over. I do feel better feeling like I'm past the half-way mark. Worst case scenario, I've learned a lot already, and it's definitely a huge boost to my resume. Best case scenario is that I come out with a strong understanding of this crap, and then they hire me as a permanent employee as I'll be the only one available who's familiar with the app at that point.

Now, off to wrap up this sub-project and go see the boy. Yay!
