The thumping begins

So last night was my first shot at a bit of SCA heavy fighting. I had on some loaned armor, took a few swings, got tapped a few times, and generally tinkered around with the whole thing for a short bit. More to come later, after I get a bit of my own equipment. Oddly enough, the most painful bit the next day was where the demi-gauntlet was banging into my hand between the thumb at the wrist - it's turning into a nice painful bruise. The muscle pain is pretty minor, but I wasn't at it for long.

Thanksgiving weekend was good. Went to my parents for dinner on Thursday, and my mom was less psychotic than usual. It made for what turned out to be a relatively relaxing day, for which I was very happy. gwenidh made a good impression on the folks, which is rather tough, but then, she's good that way.

Work on Friday, and a visit to Klamath Falls for the rest of the weekend to meet lj user="gwenidh">'s parents. It's been a long time since I've been in a rural town like that, and I'd forgotten what it was like. Very conservative. It was a good trip, though, seeing where she grew up, and hanging out in the snow. Yes, we got to hang out in the snow. FUN!

Oh, I should also mention that the motel we stayed in was featured in Thrash magazine, too. As in, pictured on the cover. Her uncle (and his dog) were even in the magazine. It seems there's a huge skateboard park nearby, and the skaters who were covering it for the mag stayed in the motel, and it turns out that the motel lets the skaters skate the empty swimming pool. Hell, after this, I don't know if they'll ever fill the pool up again.

Not much else to report. Got a couple callbacks for resumes submitted, but nothing resulting in an interview. Had another contact last night for a contract job at Intel that would be nice, but we'll see if it pans out. Need to stick a few things on Ebay this week, and get my resume into a couple more contract agencies. Still pretty tight financially, but gwenidh is wonderful, Toph is adorable, Dustin is a genius, and everything is generally running fairly smoothly. And if I can get a few things to go well on Ebay, I'll even have a Christmas budget, which will ROCK.

Too bad I can't make it to Pittsburgh for the New Years Eve party. We'll just have to throw one around here. Oh, and speaking of parties, I need to start having a few at my place now that it's mostly cleaned up. Unless someone is aware of a better venue...
