I Named My Muse: Fickle Dreamer

So, I've been working on my world like a madwoman, as well as, the characters. I've also been paying a lot of attention to the media I've been taking in and dissecting it brutally. (Which has been driving my husband batty. XD) Everything I've been reading or watching lately. (And far more than usual.) I've been paying attention to what I like and ( Read more... )

I enjoyed all three, though I felt the Prestige could have used just a bit of work in the character empathy department. Not a lot, just a bit. My hubbie and I were on the verge of turning the film off just out of sheer disgust with the main character's until we realized we were almost finished. (And we definitely wanted to see if they explained the tricks.)

The Illusionist was really good, as well, completely different animal than the Prestige and it's a shame the two movies came out at the same time because people seem to feel some need to choose between them. This was another intriguing and convoluted story. One where they don't explain the big trick(in the act.)

Blood Diamond was excellent, though no where near as graphic or bloody as I expected. But I think that most people would have trouble believing just how horrible it is out there. Just what goes on, so I should have been expecting what I got. But I've been a huge fan of Djimon Hounsou's ever since I saw Amistad. (You'd be amazed how prolific he is.) And I also think that Leonardo Dicaprio is a great actor who doesn't get credit for it. His detractors won't even watch most of his films because he's "pretty" and most of his fans are drooling idiotes who don't care that he actually can act because they're also too concerned with his face. So, I sympathize with the boy; he's stuck in a plight that many a beautiful woman has been in over the ages. Whether they like you or hate you they don't give you credit or take you seriously. *shrugs* But the movie! It was really good! The characters moved through the story in a fashion that was totally believable for them and the story itself was interesting and...I suppose the only proper word is gut-wrenching. When you think about the fact that this is reality, minus a goodly amount of rape and disfiguring torture, for millions or billions of people gut-wrenching is just one word to describe it. And it draws a nice bit of attention to the diamond trade. I know I kept staring down at my wedding ring and wondering and feeling my stomach twist. I'm not sure if I could buy a diamond again in clear conscience. So, good movie, great acting, great point.

Yeah, I really liked The Prestige, but the characters were really hard to connect with. They were both so awful to each other! I thought it had a pretty good ending though.

Finally, someone else who likes The Illusionist! I saw it first, without knowing anything about either movie, and I really liked it. Everyone I know said they had the whole thing figured out, but I didn't know what was coming until it happened. It's sad that more people didn't like it, but it's their loss.

I thought Blood Diamond was one of the best movies I've seen in a while. I'm glad that it didn't go so much for the shock factor gore-wise, but they still managed to get the story and ideas across perfectly. It's really rare for my family to go to a movie and all four of us like it, but that is what happened with this one. It made it easier for people to see the kind of awful stuff that goes on over there, since it really doesn't get that much attention, and it managed to do it without beating the viewers over the head. That was another big plus for me, since I don't mind messages but I hate being beaten senseless with them. (Kind of like what happened with Happy Feet...) It really made me wonder about all of the jewelry in the stores where I live, and I am a lot more likely to look into it before I buy any diamond jewelry in the future.
