I was thinking about all the things I do on a daily basis, and started adding up the prices. The results amused me, so I'm posting them here:
Cost of day care for 2 kids: $600-1200 a month
Meal preparation: 14 hours a week at $8.50 an hour is $119 a week, and $476 a month.
Average cost of housekeeping for a 2-bedroom apartment is $74-200, so we'll make it $100 a week, which is $400 a month.
I'm not sure how to add up laundry, but if I figure a buck to wash and a buck to dry, at 3-4 loads a week, that's around $30 a month.
Once I start homeschooling, the average yearly cost of a private school, according to costhelper.com, is $14,050. That's $1170 a month.
So ...
Child care: $1200 (2 kids)
Meal prep: $476
Housekeeping: $400
Laundry: $30
Schooling: $1170
That's $3276 a month, and $39,312 a year.
And people don't consider stay at home moms to be worth very much ...
