OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG.
i just bought tickets to see the fantastic
kirov orchestra with none other than the sweaty, smelly, hung over, dirty-baseball-cap-wearing, toothpick-wielding, freaking amazing unbelievable god-like conductor
valery gergiev here in toronto on april 21 AND 22. different programme each night!
if this was the 1800's i would totally swoon right now.
but it's not, so i'm just going to bounce off the walls for the rest of the day.
(for those of you that don't know why this is so exciting... well there's a few reasons. first off, we worked with gergiev this past summer in germany, and he is utterly phenomenal. i mean, ignoring the fact that he sweats like a pig, and walks into rehearsal looking like he hasn't been sober OR bathed in days... AND he conducted not only in rehearsal but IN CONCERTS with A TOOTHPICK!!! but he is honestly one of the most incredible conductors and one of the best musicians that i've ever played with. and plus, the kirov orchestra is fan-freaking-tastic; we saw them in lübeck during shmf 2003 playing an all-prokofiev programme (including vadim repin playing the violin concerto no. 1 that was much better than last night's i might add, no open flies to worry about), and they are amazing. they're a very young orchestra and they have the kind of energy that i really hope i can have someday when i actually get a job. so inspiring. i can't believe i'm this excited for concerts that are 6 months away.)
