On the 23rd November St Florian de la Rivierre is holding an event called An Eastern Affair. It's a big one. It's a baronial changeover and my apprentice sister Lil is getting Laurelled. She's running the event and as her persona is Middle Eastern it's all Eastern all the way. Our peer Acacia is stepping up as Baroness along with her partner Drakey as Baron so it's been all hands on for us in our household. I'm in the middle of making new headgear for my middle eastern outfit so I'll post that at some stage here too. However, this post is about list field bunting.
The barony needed new bunting for the list field so Lil came up with a tulip pattern for it and I volunteered to make it up. What it's made of is pieces of metre long sections that have tulips in the hanging with a hole along the ridgeline to thread the field rope through. It's to have 5 pieces per side so that meant 20 sections needed making.
I was given the pattern drawn up on cardboard so that made it a bit easier. The steps taken are as follows. Trace around cardboard pattern onto white sheet using erasable gel pen. Cut around whole section so it can be wrangled through the sewing machine. Machine sew the two sides together (top is folded down) following the pattern. (Thank goodness I do quilting - lots of turning and manipulating the piece when pushing it through the machine) Trim around the sewn pattern to remove the excess fabric. Turn piece right side out and pull out points. Iron flat. Repeat 19 times.
Each piece has to have purple put along the top section but I'm going to do that last. I'm at the stage of all 20 pieces have been machine sewn. 10 are completed and another 5 have had their excess trimmed and started turning. The last 5 are yet to be trimmed. After posting this I'll be sitting down to get into them.
So here's the progress in photos. I think they'll look spiffing when finished.
