How children are treated in Brave New Covid World

Imagine.

You have a little girl aged four, and she started school a few weeks ago. She’s still a bit shy, but she’s beginning to enjoy being with the other children and learning new things.
One day, without any warning, she is sent home. She isn’t ill and she hasn’t done anything wrong. As soon as she gets home, you drag her into her bedroom and lock her in. You keep her locked in her room for fourteen days. She is only allowed out to go to the toilet and to wash. Throughout those fourteen days, nobody goes into her room for any reason whatsoever. She has nobody to talk to (except through a locked door), no bedtime cuddles, no games, no contact with any other human being except through a computer, which she is too young to be able to operate. Nobody helps her to the toilet and nobody helps her to wash. Her meals are dumped inside the door, which is opened a chink for the purpose and then locked again. If, in extreme emergency, you let her out, you first tie a piece of cloth over her mouth and nose, and nobody approaches within six feet of her.
I repeat: this goes on for fourteen days.

Until this time last year, anybody who behaved like that towards a four-year-old child would be arrested and charged with the most appalling child abuse. Their children would be taken into care and they would probably go to prison.

Nowadays, treating children in this way is a requirement. At least, it is a requirement in Toronto, Canada, for any child who has the misfortune to be in the same class as a child that has 'tested positive' for the wretched virus. Not a child who has tested positive herself, note.

Stay safe, you unspeakable Covidian thugs. Stay safe until the world becomes sane again, and you are made to pay for your crimes.
