I was looking at something and it occurred to me: isn't it the commander who is supposed to get his ass handed to him in simple combat unless his tactics are good? You know, like some magician?

So WHY THE FUCK IS THE CO UNIT IN DAYS OF RUIN GOING TO BE THE "PWN J00" UNIT?!?!?

I mean, instant veteran status, power boosts, AND supporting power boosts? And the only cost comes at a few gold, ON THE NEXT TURN. Hardly a weakness. This is a mechanic? So is lag on Tetris Attack netplay, and do I brag about any win of mine on that? No I don't. But that's not the point. Everybody boosts their own attack and defense power more than that of any unit in their zone. Even Penny does this, and she's some frail kid who relies on the weather to abuse the CO unit mechanic.

Here's what I would do: have every unit have an S variant like about 15 units in Game Boy Wars 3 does, with the 150% cost of what the regular unit is along with being slower, more specialized, or weaker. Rather than grant instant veterancy, COing would make the unit the S variant. Also, take away the innate 10% boosts, and also give COs strengths and weaknesses.
