Building a Dream - The Club House Begins

May 02, 2011 14:57

[With a fervor like no other, Ness had been spending the last few weeks running about the town. He had been gathering every scrap piece of wood he could carry. From every tosses piece of balsa, to every dismissed plank of ply wood, he had smuggled what he could without being caught.

Now, amassed in a pile in his back yard, Ness was surveying the ( Read more... )

Meh. I'm alright.

"Yeah. It'd be good for a base of operation for all the kids in town. Kinda' like a safe house in case some thing bad happens again.

I'm hanging in there, aside from school and stuff.

Think you can swing by some time soon?"

....That's actually not a terrible idea. Though we'd have to find someplace out of the way to put it to avoid most of the crap that could start, going by experience.

....I guess. Don't really have much going on anyway.

Yeah sure. Give me a bit.

[And, in a little while, Pokey'll be strolling into your backyard Ness. He doesn't look particularly different, although a lot of his...proud demeanor has changed. The last month or so hasn't been too good for it.

He just looks at you for a moment.]

Hey.

[Hold on. Some thing seems a bit off.. Ness sets down a few planks and runs over to Pokey, looking him over as if a buyer were inspecting a brand new car.]

"Everything okay?"

[Oh for....

Yeah, he'll never get used to that, and he just leers away for a moment as Ness runs over to him, looking him over. He tries to glower a little bit, burying his hands in his pockets.]

I'm fine, idiot. The last few weeks have just been stupid.

"Oh? You mean with the whole Milkman incident?"

[Ness hadn't really been bothering with the news about town, so forgive him for being so ignorant. Ness is at the point of just keeping his nose clean, his head down, and using the best of his ability to stay out of trouble.. until now.]

"Well, no need to worry anymore! This will definitely put us one step ahead for the next time some thing like that happens! See?"

[Ness sweeps a hand out to the pile of lumber amassed over the back yard lawn. Yup, that's a lot of wood. Nothing more, mothing less.]

"Well? What do you think?"

...Yeah.

[He's tempted to ask you how much you know, Ness. If you knew what they were doing there. Or to tell you. In the past, he would've just told you to see you probably cry at the thought of people being used the way they were. But now? He can't. He just...can't.

He'll leave it for now and look at the lumber.]

Well it's....wood. A lot of wood.

"Yeah."

[Ness holds out his hands bashfully. They look as if they'd been run through a meat grinder. His fingers were covered in nothing but adhesive strips and gauge wrappings, not to mention the palms of his hands were raw and red with bruises and blisters.]

"It took a while finding it all and carrying it back here, but it'll be worth it once we've got ourselves a new tree house."

[Pokey notices, but doesn't say anything. Hopefully you'll be smart enough to take care of yourself after this, because Pokey doesn't do stupid, sissy crap like asking how people are. Sorry Ness.]

Yeah. So who else is working with you on building it then me?

"Well.. I haven't had too many offers just yet. You're really the only other person aside from Lucas to get in touch with me about it. Seems we might be in a little over our heads.

You're in better contact with most of the other kids around here, right? Know any one else who'd be interested in helping?"
