I accidentally fell into a new show

My cosplay is ready and it's not two hours until the con starts but a whole night. What the fuck. I don't know what to do with myself now, so here, have this hilarious scene from the new dorama I am watching at the moment.

Remember how I said I would start working through Yamada Takayuki's filmography? Well, I started with "Yuusha Yoshihiko to Maou no Shiro" (The Hero Yoshihiko and the Demon King's Castle). It's "A no budget action adventure series" as the intro song so helpfully tells us and it's utterly batshit insane. The story is about Yoshihiko and his group of useless companions who set out to defeat the Demon King because Buddha told them to. (They weren't that keen on doing it but eh, Buddha screamed them into submission. Buddha is by the way my favourite character, oh my God xD.).

As obvious from the clip above, there are a ton of allusions to video games like "Dragon Quest" or "Zelda" or "Whatever, just name it, it's probably in there" but also Monty Python jokes (a gang of bandits that only work from nine to five and such stuff) and hilarious papermaché monsters and fluffy koala plushies trying to kill our heroes.

It varies from adorably idiotic to hilarious to what the fuck did I just watch and there are of course dozens of allusions I don't get because they are about things "so utterly Japanese pop culture that I have no idea that they existed in the first place" xD. Episode five for example is dedicated to a comedy group and although a lot of jokes work without knowing about obscure Japanese comedy programs, some of it is just really random when you can't put it into perspective (Merebu, the magician, gets hit by silver pans and plates repeatedly for example which is part of that specific comedy group's program - for me, it rather felt like watching a silly cartoon XD).

So, I can't really recommend it wholeheartedly as it sometimes tends to drag but I am only here for the awesome fourth wall breaking jokes about how you really shouldn't take on side quests because the main storyline is rather time sensitive and Yamada Takayuki's face anyway (boy, does he deliver. Perfect comedic timing, I love his movements, he is SO INTO IT and the whole cast just seems to have a lot of fun in general).

ayawinner, also, this is Oguri Shun's role. Still a better look than in Hana Yori Dango. (Episode 8 will probably kill you, btw, it killed me and I only saw like half a minute of it cause Youtube doesn't know me at all!)
