Childhood character appreciation post!

Yeah, mostly because I searched the "digimon" tag over at tumblr and got a nostalgia flash. <3
So here have my number one character from this series:
Renamon

Renamon is awesome. Rika accompanies him and Rika herself is a very round character (for TV standards that is xD). She didn't like the dresses her mother bought her (and ohhhh my God could I relate when I was younger xD), she hated making friends and was a loner most of the time but eventually she learns that friends are a necessity in life and that everything is easier when you actually have them. Such a wonderful character and such a strong girl (and she has very good taste in clothing xD).

Renamon is her Digimon and he is just... he is awesome beyond imagination.
He is coldhearted at first but grows stronger and more lovable during the course of the series and has many wonderful moments with Rika.
He also is one of the few characters to care for Impmon, one of the characters who had suffered emotional abuse earlier on and grew into becoming a villain for some time because only the bad guys would answer his call for attention. Renamon is seen to talk to him every now and then trying to reason with stubborn Impmon which makes him invaluable in my opinion. He has a big heart even for his enemies and although he can't show it very well, he is very compassionate and a likeable, strong character.

The thing with Renamon is however, that he got a male voice dubbing him in Germany, whereas the Japanese version made him a girl. At first I thought this was one of the usual English-dubbing-studios-fucked-it-up-mistakes (Zoisite anyone?) but then I learned that Renamon was indeed a female and always referred to as one in the English version!
I don't know why this is so very appealing to me, but the fact that Renamon could either be viewed as a girl or a boy was indeed a refreshingly new thought in children's television programms.
(His matrix evolution is definitely a busty woman whereas his other digitations are either gender neutral or can be yseen as male).

Yeah, I know it is said that Digimon are designed to have no gender but then again the voices or maybe the colour schemes are the only traits to recognize the gender and when the one is definitely male and the other somewhat neutral the viewer is asked to draw his own conclusions which is good and fine for me.

So yeah, have some sparkle and a wonderful day!
(I had bloody Supernatural! Castiel already so my day cannot get any more wonderful xD).
