Title: A Damn Cliché

Fandom: The Good Wife

Characters: Alica and Peter

Rating: G

Summary:  Peter talks to Alicia about the Gomez trial

Author's Note: I'm not entirely sure if Peter could handle a case such as the one I mention below, so please forgive my lack of legal knowledge.

“He doesn’t love you.”

“Excuse me?”

“He’s using you to get to me.”

“That is absurd.”

“He wants to distract me, make me jealous so that I will lose all my cases against him. He wants to use you as leverage, use you to try and throw me off my game.”

“Of course he is,” Alicia answers mockingly.

“He tried to get me to pay out the Gomez case. He said he would stop seeing you if I got the city to settle for 5 million on Gomez.”

“That’s not true.”

“I can prove it.”

“No - I know he didn’t say that.”

“You don’t sound so sure.”

“He didn’t say that because we’re not seeing each other.”

“Then I have a chance.”

“Not if your life depended on it.”

“Let me come home and I’ll pay 10 million on Gomez. You’ll go into the office a hero for getting this.”

Laughing she replies, “you seem very eager to settle this case, maybe you don’t have enough to go to trial and just need a reason not to
pursue.”

“Give me a reason.”

“Peter, I’m . . . I’ll send you the divorce papers in the morning.”

------

In his office, throwing darts from his desk chair, drinking from a glass filled with scotch and very little ice, Peter can’t help but think, “she’s reduced me to a damn cliché. It’s like some bad movie, me trying to force her to be with me.”

The dart he throws now finds its target, the nose of a picture of Will Gardner tacked to the dart board.

“Bulls eye.”
