Megacon was Megafun!!!

Ok, the post you've all been waiting for...MEGACON!!!

First off, I have to say that I didn't expect it to be so much fun. Mark has known me for almost 4 years now and he says that he has never seen me smile so much!!

The day started off with waking up all grumpy after only 4 hours of sleep. I showered and wrestled with combing my over-bleached hair for about half an hour. Then my odangos just did NOT want to tie up for me. I kept having loose hairs come out of my knot. But finally I got it tied and I wrapped them with my extensions.

I had a little nightmare with my tiara getting stuck in the wrong place. We were already running late, so I was really tempted to cut in out. Yes, I was going to cut my own hair! It was only a smal piece, but it was stuck about an inch from that scalp. How stupid. Luckily, joie got it out without pulling the hair out of the odango. I was more careful when I actually placed it on my head (I hadn't realized that the spiraled ends would automatically catch in my hair on contact.)

The drive was ok. We got a little lost and went to the wrong building at the convention center (there are 4!!!). Mark had to park really far away, and it took him half hour to get to us. We were just buying our tickets when he got in (yes, silly us, we missed the deadline to buy our tickets online).

Now for the costume contest. YAY!!! I was # 19, and Joie was 49. I registered 2 days before the deadline, and she was the next day. How did 30 people register in one day???? anyways, I was judged after just 10 minutes of waiting, but we had to wait another 2 hours for Joie. THe judging was neat. I expected to be scared, but I wasn't. It was really neat telling the judges about my costume, they loved that I made my own tiara.

The sucky thing is that my dress was so tight that I could not sit down. I could kinda perch on the edge of a chair, but I couldn't really sit. So I got really sick of standing around waiting for joie to be judged. Plus my back was sore from overdoing it at swing dancing the day before. so i took and advil and wandered off to visit the dealer room with Mark. He got me a set of Sailor Moon fridge magnets. They're the chibi inners. He also got me a Super Sailor Moon (cause it's my favourite transformation) and a Super Sailor Chibi Moon.

I could barely walk though because everyone was stopping me for pictures. I fully intended to count how many pictures, but in the first 10 mintutes, I was past 50 and I just gave up. I think it was around 300 or 400 though. Sadly, Mark was like, oh, people are taking pictures, but he didn't take very many. We have very few good ones, so if you find one online, PLEASE send me a link.

Then we had to go back. Joie was just about to go in to be judged, so we waited and we all went to the dealer room again. We had great times walking around. A few people stopped Joie for pics, but not very many. It's funny because her costume was perfect, but people don't seem to respond as well to Sango in her kimono as in her fighting costume.

I found so many neat things, and so many things I wanted to buy, but I only got a few. When I saw a sailor moon keychain, I started jumping up and down, and mark handed over the cash. The sales lady pointed me in the direction of a booth with lots of sailor Moon stuff. And they did have lots, but most of it was dolls. I'm not much of a doll person anymore strangely enough. But what they did have was anime cells. There were about 9 sailor moon ones. One of them was just perfect!! It was Usagi (wearing her green sleveless blouse with the pink bows, and the green bows in her odangos--love that one) and Chibiusa fighting over a piece of cake. It was $65 too much money. (I'm kicking myself now though. I really wish I had splurged on it now though. Wahhh... But I did get one. I have one of classic Sailor Moon, It was only $40. (though mark barely let me get that).

There were lots more wonderful things to look at and that I wanted to buy, but I'm very pleased with my purchases.

Ok, on to the costume contest. I am convinced that even though I had no time for any other events, it was the best choice for my day. I met so many people, and had so much fun! Being backstage was great!!! The show started an hour late, and so we had lots of time to hang around and talk. Two really sweet girls convinced me to join cosplay.com so we could keep in touch. THe actual show itself was pretty boring. It was 2 hours long, and since I couldn't really sit, I was very uncomfortable. THe MCs were absolutely horrid too.

I was a little confused by the winners. Some of them were really good, but some were poorly made. I was a little sad that I didn't win anything, but I got over it. I mean, out of 300 people, there were lots of other good costumes that weren't recognized too. We came out of the hall and we were going to leave, but when I found mark and saw how bad his pictures turned out, I ran to find the new friends I had made and take pictures of them.

As I was running around like a lunatic with the camera, one of the judges ran up to me. SHe had been looking for me because she wanted to give me one of her awards. She explained that they can't get all of the people that they want to recognize up on the stageso they are allowed to give out hall awards to one or two other deserving people after the show. She also told me about a costume contest at a con this summer that she is in charge of. She wants to to enter again. and she pointed out a few things I could do to my costume to improve my chances of winning.

So, hall award in hand, I ran around like even more of a lunatic. I found some of my new friedns and hung out with them for a while. Woo hoo. THey're from alabama and California. So I'll see Velvy at AX! They're the ones who wanted me to join cosplay.com. Yay Yay!!

Then we went out for supper (at 9:30 pm) to Doc Cheys--mmm, yummy asian food!! I was still so giddy that I couldn't stop smiling. Mark got cute pictures of me. Hurrah!

Anyways, here's a pic for you!! More to come when I've unpacked a little more stuff.
