NaNoWriMo

So, I tried this once before, but this year I'm serious about it. I am doing NaNoWriMo. (If you didn't know, it's a crazy challenge that involves writing a 50,000+ word novel in the 30 days of November. It stands for National Novel Writing Month) I have a plot and an outline. I am signed up. If I take out the week I'll be in the hospital, I ( Read more... )

The Queen Beryl Conundrum: "I saw him first! Go home!"
The Fushigi Yuugi Paradox: "The universe is set off balance! Our worlds must remain separate!"
The Court Intrigue Paradigm: "Someone doesn't want Prince-y boy to be King."
The Cinderella Concept: "Jealous relative steals the magic dress/machine!"
The Wartime Classic: "My country is at war. There's no time for romance!"

Or you could try The Blender Routine: "A mix of some of the aforementioned."

Well, I have to stay far away from anything that's even remotely close to Fushigi Yugi because after I read my outline to Mark, she started saying "Miaka... Tamahome... Miaka... Tamahome..." I didn't intend any similarities at all, and I think once it's written it'll be so different that no one would ever think it, but it has a lot of similarities in the basic plot-line (travel between real and magical world, travel done by the girl, the magic connecting the two worlds is clothing-- like Miaka and Yue's uniforms, the desire to bring the boy back to the real world. Yup-- fairly similar). Luckily the setting is nothing alike, and Taylor has no magical powers herself, nor do 99% of the characters ( ... )

Here's a suggestion I could use:

I'm sick of writing "machine" but I can't find a good replacement and need to write a lot about that stupid sewing machine, so I decided to give it a pet-name.

“You sew like a dream,” she said to the machine with an affectionate pat. Then as her hand rested on the detailed art, she corrected, “No, more like a fairytale. I think I'll call you _____"

Fill in the blank-- something fairytale related!

Fairy Godmother comes to mind. Oh, how cliche!

Chariot? Maybe that's stretching it a bit. I don't have any really good ideas for this one, it seems.

A friend on facebook gave me a whole bunch of suggestions-- I think I'll go with Aine (dreamlike fairy queen), which, coincidentally is one of the names mark wanted when we were discussing baby names (even though Anastasia was settled long before we were even married!). He's happy to call her Anya though, since they're pronounced nearly identically.
