Just got home from one of the best/longest weekends of my life. :)
Lots to catch up on, but I'm not necessarily in a mood to cover every little detail, so I'll get the biggies outta the way.
This year so far has been much better than expected, so happily for me I'm sticking with the plan in my earlier post. My trip to Minneapolis was amazing! I got to spend time with Josh (and see his apartment, see driving conditions in the dead of winter in MN, etc.), went out to two fantastic restaurants (Masa in downtown and Namaste Cafe in Uptown) and meet a ton of people (both candidates and recruiters). We never ended up getting a tour of the city because there was a miscommunication about the hotel we were staying at, but we got time to walk around, get acquainted with the area and really explore. My flights were fine (only delayed a few minutes each time because of the bad weather), and people picking me up/dropping me off were of course reliable! In the end, I was really excited to hear from Target regarding an offer.
And guess what people?
I GOT THE JOB! I'll be a Business Analyst in Target Sourcing Services, which is the division of Target that globally sources product and introduces it into stores, working on the behind-the-scenes logistics and communications. I got the phone call on Thursday of last week after a few systems issues trying to input additional information into their database. Once that was finished, though, I got the phone call, accepted the offer over the phone and have been thinking about everything involved in moving since. I went and took my mandatory drug test on Friday morning and hopefully will not hear anything back from them (they are legally required to contact you first if anything shows up in your test), though I'll have to wait until Tuesday to figure it out, I think, based on the Martin Luther King Jr. Day messing up the week.
Anyway, so my parents were obviously incredibly excited, I'm super happy and Chris is really proud of me. :) I think he thought all along that I would get the job, so he's been planning in his head since then! We're now scouring Craigslist for apartment ideas and hoping to hear back from Target Relocation soon about specific details.
Basically, the salary and benefits as well as prospects in Minneapolis really sealed the deal. Not only will it be a great place to begin my career but Chris has many more opportunities there as well. I'll most likely be able to support both of us on my salary alone, too, which gives him ample time to really figure out what he wants to do, and will not force him to settle for anything less than that.
In the meantime, because my parents were obviously so excited they took me shopping all weekend long. I got home late Friday night and we left early Saturday morning for Mayfair Mall and Brookfield Square. I ended up spending over $500 of my parents' money, but they're proud of me, and since I'll be at the executive level, I'm expected to dress in business professional 4 out of 5 days a week, and need a wardrobe to support that. One of my favorite purchases was a new business bag from Fossil, black and very structured. I'm super excited about all my new stuff, and thanked my parents endlessly! I know I'm going to need much more, though, too, and will be on the lookout for the next month for a few more items to really pull things together.
I will be starting on March 1st, so am planning on moving the weekend of February 19, most likely. All of this is tentative, of course, since we have no idea if I'll find an apartment before that. Furthermore, who knows when leases start? How much security deposits are? If we'll be able to get of our current lease? So much to think about, and it's going to go by so fast since I'm working in the meantime!
Kate wasn't too mad, either. She's mostly just sad and worried that I'm leaving. I know Jake will be a great shift manager, but she's insistent upon me sticking with Noodles. If I really disliked Target, maybe. But considering the job right now, I don't think that's going to happen!
It feels good to finally get this validation, though. I graduated from high school, went to college, spent time tailoring my major and studies to a specific type of job and finally achieved my goal of getting a job where I can adequately pay for my bills, save for my future, get to dress up, get benefits, and do something I enjoy, all while working the normal workweek of Monday through Friday. Some people may not be into this, but I definitely am. And with Chris as more of the "house-husband" figure, we need this!
I haven't sent out enough e-mails yet, so I need to do that as soon as I unpack and Febreze all my freaking clothes. Right now it's just overwhelming!
