I'll start with the best commentary and go downhill from there, so you can choose to stop reading whenever you'd like.
While walking to class today I ventured past Lucky (facing University Avenue) for the first time. They have a doorman. A doorman. No one else fails to see the idiocy in this?!?! We're on a college campus. Seriously? I think everyone needs to live in a complete dump at least once in their life (if for nothing else than to fully appreciate something nice when it does come along). As is life, I suppose. Gah. I'm ecstatic that I'm not going to be a student much longer though, God forbid I have to deal with this privileged bullshit any longer than completely necessary.
Second, I think I have a "grass is always greener" complex, even when using bathrooms. I NEVER EVER EVER use the first stall I find empty and clean. I peek in, find it completely suitable, then never use it. Today I did use the first stall in Van Hise, for the first time! Very excite.
Freak-out today about several things, mostly rent/gross income/graduating/growing up. My mom gave me some stats about having your total living expenses (rent only) be between 25 and 30% of your gross income (that's before taxes for you non-financially savvy). So I started figuring numbers in my head and the figures are simply frightening. Pair with that living in Madison for next year. Now add on that a potential half-rent payment will be coming straight from the wages from an already stressed-out college student who should honestly be spending less time working and more time enjoying college and studying. Urg. Life can be very difficult sometimes.
However, let me clarify myself. This doesn't mean I don't want to live with Chris next year. I do, really. I just feel terrible that I even thought to rely on him in the first place for a definite rent payment from his parents. Totally rude of me, to be honest. Obviously there will be give and take and fairness and blah blah, but expecting something from the 'rents was just silly. Gah. We'll just have to be careful in choosing a place, if this is indeed what we decide to do.
Classes are interesting thus far (second day, eh?). Update on each:
Japanese: intense, but fun, and MUCH easier to pronounce so far. We haven't even had any pronunciation lessons! Just a basic "repeat after me" phrasing and such. Interesting subject matter + cutesy teaching assistant (but not schoolgirl worthy, fortunately) + already knowing nearly all the kanji we will learn this semester should prove to equal a great semester here.
Consumer Behavior: new professor, class with Ericka (which I didn't know!) and lack of technological prowess will definitely equal some interesting and humorous class experiences here. However, new professor seems very friendly (perhaps too much so?) and has some easy class assignments. Yay for sticking to the basic consumer science curriculum prof. Thanks! :)
Marketing: exact opposite of above (except Ericka has this as well). Add in that the professor is a terrible dresser. Ugh. We'll have to see about this one. Thankfully it's not a power lecture and it's only twice a week. Also (unlike every other business school course) no curve. Woo to that.
Civilizations of India: Gerald is in this class!! So are a bunch of freshman. Professor is older, quieter, and very boring. I may have to spend my time in this one either doing Japanese homework or some sudoku, kakuro or fill-ins. Seems nice, though, which will be an interesting difference between my other professor similar to this, Memmon (Islam from sophomore year?). He was boring and angry. Ugh. Nothing worse.
So yes! My list of homework for the next week is all written out, I work tomorrow afternoon at GameStop, and I already did some substantial homework this evening! Whew! Looks like some gaming time is in order.
EDIT: Purchased Eli Stone Season 1 today, will be picking up Heroes Season 2 and The Office Season 4 tomorrow from the FANTASTIC Exclusive Company on State St. Used to think they were way more expensive, turns out not really true. Neato. DVD boxed sets FTW.
