I have spent the majority of my past week doing one of two things. the first is watching the office.. which i am now officially caught up on. and second is watching tom morello / audioslave. for those of you who dont know, which im pretty sure is most everyone, tom morello is the guitarist for Audioslave and used to be the Guitarist for Rage Against the Machine. he is a genius on the guitar. ive spent way too much time on youtube and google video watching him play, and finally downloaded the Live From Cuba Audioslave Show, which was amazing. It was really cool how Audioslave was the first American rock band to ever play in Cuba and that it didn't really matter what language it was in the people still went crazy. anywho tom morello is most known for his pretty much reinventing of the sound of a guitar, away from the straight solo where people measure how good you are by how fast you play to a jimmy hendrix esque sound where he distorts the guitar so much you can't even recognize its a guitar. what he does to get his sound is crazy tho, he only has about 5 pedals and he tweaks them to certain levels and experiments with them and says that when he was playing professional guitar as he called it he would sit and practice for 8 hours a day which is absurd. he does one thing that he is actually extremely famous for, which is called a killswitch. where a guitar has two feeds, and u can switch between them by a switch on the guitar face, and u put one feed up to 10 and the other to 0 so it doesnt make sound. and u switch between the two to make ur own sound. through this he makes in effect a dj table where it sounds like he's actually scratching discs, he has another one where he uses the killswitch and bangs his hand against the strings to make a helicopter sound. and also sometimes goes up to a huge amp and uses the feedback from the amp to perpetuate his solo so he doesn't actually strum a single note.

in conclusion audioslave is one of the last true rock bands out there, so enjoy it while it lasts because its being ruined by bands like green day and u2. oh yeah my brother and i have come to teh conclusion, u2 is actually a pretty bad band, like bono's voice is poor at best. the only reason they are liked is because they are such a generic band, they have the most generic rock sound you can imagine. so that people that don't really like rock music still like u2 just because you can't not like it because its so normal. so they have a huge fan base in people that don't really like music that much. so if u ever ask anyone what their favorite band is and they say u2 u know that they have very little background in rock. anywho i guess i should stop procrastinating and get back to my mountain of work, goodbye world.
