Sitting in class, I like it and i've already learned somethings that they never went over at SJSU. BUT some people are soooooo slow; not slow like they don't do the work fast, slow like the teacher has explained it 200 million times and they STILL don't get it. All I have to say is that my teacher has ENDLESS amounts of patience. My god, if I only ( Read more... )

omg yay you posted!!!! this makes me very happy! keep doing it! i know what you mean about feeling guilty when you express an interest in something and someone tries to support you and then you just... don't follow through. I do it all the time. But I think it's because we set ourselves up for failure by telling ourselves we have to succeed immediately. Like, my parents invested X dollars in this software for me, so if I use it, I have to be a pro at it to prove to them it was worth the investment, and then the pressure just gets too great so we don't even let ourselves try. Story of my life! But... it's one of the big things I'm working on changing right now. Best advice I've gotten so far, is just set small goals you can reach on a daily basis... kind of like NaNo. Why not draw 15 minutes a day, every day, no matter what? Or use Maya for 15 minutes a day, every day? Or both! We can all spend 15 minutes doing pretty much any task, and after it's done, reward yourself, by doing something you really want to do for 15 minutes (like WoW or whatever). I need to take my own advice more consistently, but... so far when I stick to it, it does work. :3

I'm planning on doing my own private version of NaNo in January - I have a book that I've started which I'm about twenty pages into. I plan on writing an extra 10 pages / day. If I am disciplined enough, I ought to be able to do it, and that may or may not finish the book by the end of the month. We'll see.

Cool! Why January, if I may ask? I tend to like to put off goals until a more comfortable time, but my coaches are often telling me to just make the time and dive right in, so I'm trying to embrace that. Good luck!

I'm doing an online grad school right now for Library Science, and I'll have a break in January. So while I'm not technically working, I'm pretty busy with classes - more so than I would have expected for a three full length class semester. But yeah, January will be a break between semesters so I plan on cranking out as much writing as I can then for my novel.

Oooh are you doing the MLIS at SJSU?? I've been wanting to start the programme for ages, but just recently they lost state funding, so I would have to pay the full out-of-state tuition :(( How are you liking the programme? I've been meaning to talk to someone who is going through it to see if it would be worth the investment for me.

Out of state tuition? I thought you lived in Monterey, you should have regular in state tuition like me.

But yes, I am doing the MLIS at SJSU. The short answer to your question is that I like it so far. I'd be happy to go into details if you like, but I'd rather switch to email in that case so it's a bit more private and also so we won't be barraging Renee with emails about something I'm assuming she doesn't care about.

Email is lateralfricative [at] gmail [dot] com. I just remember reading on their website that there was some kind of low and/or free tuition for those who lived within a certain radius of SJ (which included Monterey), but that that programme had been cancelled due to lack of funding, so I could only apply as a 'special tuition' student, meaning full costs... I think it totalled about $40K for the whole programme, which is waaaay outside my means. :\

We should! Because it's hard for me to do even that little bit. Even when i try and bribe myself by saying something like "oh and if you keep this up you can get yourself Olive Garden." I usually DON'T keep in up and don't get myself yummy out to eat foods. :/
