Minecraft: Hyperion Construction 5

The next step was to begin filling in the wings and adding some of the details to them. I started this with the wing-engines that could be seen on the reference images. It took me a little while to figure out how exactly I wanted to do them. I knew I wanted them to be filled with lava, which would mean glass walls for at least part of it, but I also wanted it to look like there was some internal structure to them; something like a jet engine with the turbine and the combustion chamber.

The turbines took a little while to figure out. There's only so much you can do with a 1-meter/block resolution, but I'm happy with the way they turned out. You can just see the nether rack behind the turbine that I'm using to keep the fire going for the combustion chamber.

At this point, I had filled the port engine with lava and completed the section of the wing near the nacelles. This shot is also partially to give you a sense of the scale of the project to this point.

At this point you can see the starboard turbine from a bit different angle and can also sort of see the stone I put inside to give the impression of a compression chamber. You can also see the start of the bridge on the right side.

This last one is from the rear so you can see the exhaust cone. I wanted to try to get the light glowing blue as seen in the reference images, but I eventually decided that it just wasn't really going to be possible, so I decided to go with lava for the engines. They're supposed to be fiery, right?
