Minecraft: Hyperion Construction 3

Mar 20, 2011 20:56

Went for a while without posting because I got busy with buying and moving into a house. Anyway, continuing on with the build log.

By this point, the battlecruiser was beginning to look well-formed enough that having an enormous gaping hole in the very front of the nose was starting to look awkward. That and I needed to figure out exactly where the Yamato cannon was going to go. I was starting to toy with the idea of putting some sort of TNT cannon inside it-- maybe have it optionally launch animals as well, so I wanted to get the aperture figured out so I could start working on prototypes when I was feeling a little burned out.

That finished, although extremely un-interesting looking at this point (GIANT flat wall), I decided to move on to the wing section. I got bored of working on the pylon and decided I needed something else to make things more interesting.

Here you can see that I started working on the wing section of the rear. So far it's mostly just scaffolding and outlines. You can see where I had to burn some rather tall trees down and make use of some TNT on the top of a hill to clear enough space for the wing.

This next one shows the scale of the wing from the ground near the bottom edge of the port-side wingtip.

After some consultation with a friend, we decided that the flat face of the nose was just way too boring and enormous to let stay as it was. Looking at my reference images, I could see that the nose of the Hyperion has a lot of greebling and other interesting structures on it. So, I did the top half of them to break up the epic flatness of the current nose. The bottom half has some curved sections that I hadn't quite decided how to deal with (still haven't) so I left that alone for now.

More progress later!
