It's looking like about a 99% chance that we're going to Utah State, then. The department chair told me he couldn't do anything, but suggested that I talk to the graduate coordinator, and even suggested an argument. That was nice of him

No, the deal was that I was already going to work for free. I don't think talking to him in person is going to change anything, and frankly, if he's going to respond to me like this in an email, then I'm not interested in talking to him. He knows very well who I am, and shouldn't have responded that way if he wanted to keep my respect.
