I again have no chair to sit at as I type, so this will be short probably.
I moved today into my new apartment with three straight frat boys. As soon as I walked in, I knew I wanted to mop and buy as much room deodorizer as the FDA would allow. Thankfully my room doesn't smell, only the living room, "dining room" and kitchen. Our dining is empty currently, and my roommates informed me they plan on putting a bar in there, rather than say a table and chairs.
Walking into the living room, a white mattress and box spring are propped up against the back wall. In front of that stands a four-drawer, wooden dresser with the television on top and the DVD player on top of that. Upon quick examination, I found the drawers were filled with useful items like an iron and paper clips and tape. Two loves seats -- one tan and one pale floral patterned -- and two dark brown recliners, one of which is mine, are arranged elliptically around the TV with a small dark brown end table used as a coffee table.
I've yet to explore the depths of the kitchen. My peripheral scan found all the basic cooking utensils available to me. However, the pantry, which I've been informed everyone shares equally, was full of stacks of Ramen Noodles and Zatarain's Rice and other just-add-water concoctions. Typical flavored salts disguised as seasonings were scattered around the counter tops.
I placed my pepper grinder next to the salt and pepper shakers on the stove.
My roommates so far have been nice to me. I haven't talked to them at all though. I've spent my time with my door closed unpacking and organizing my room.
I never realized how much I do care about decorating until I got here. My room isn't terribly coordinated and certainly is never neat, but at least I have all the essential furniture and understand different pieces proper utility.
I made sure to actually use my bed skirt today out of spite. I won't bring people to this apartment until some things change, but at least I can say my room is nice.
