Oddness

Last night I had a dream heavy with religious imagery. As a non-theist my dreams never contain anything so strongly tied to a particular religions mythology, unless I have just watched a film or TV show with same as this will influence the imagery in my dreams.

The dream flowed on a previous dream (as they often do, this one had double-glazing salesmen and the T-Rex from Jurassic Park). I was part of a team of supernatural detectives were just finishing up a case in Australia when the boss (a remote unseen figure) ordered us to immediately travel to England, specifically my hometown of Coventry. Once there we went to a police station where an officer took us to a cell. In the cell was a rough looking man ranting that he had opened a gate to heaven.

He had done this using a “mystical” d12 that had one face showing a zero. At some point a second d12 appear and I had to handle them without letting the top face be the one showing zero as this would open another gate. Which does happen but one of the team tries to seal it up (this involved duct-taping someone to the wall where the gate was appearing, gotta love that dream logic). However a third d12 had now come from somewhere and someone (probably me) started turn them over till all three showed 6.

Everything starts getting very Silent Hill at this point. The agent taping the man to the wall suddenly grabs the poor fellow and uses him to beat the prisoner to a bloody death, the walls start to dissolve and show rivers of lava flowing over a large precipice. Several claw like things thrust up out of the now metallic floor. Then things get very strange. I jump out of the room to a ledge by the lava river and see a baby Jesus being carried over the edge. As is sometimes the case in dreams I suddenly came to the knowledge that there had been other baby Jesus’s and that they all got taken to Hell to prevent the Second Coming. I jump out to save him. The last image of the dream is the baby Jesus screaming and reaching for me as it reaches the drop.

So what’s that all about? My first guess is my parental worry transferring into mythological imagery as processed by my gamer’s sub-conscience.

Further thought about the dream this morning lead me to think that Longinus (as he appeared in Witchblade as opposed to Roar) would be an excellent candidate for the mysterious boss. Eternally waiting for Jesus to return but thwarted by the forces of Hell who take all the babies that could grow up to be the Second Coming.
