A rant for Tuesday
If there's one thing that makes my blood boil it's fellow South Africans (and people I'm supposed to know and love) who cling to outdated and outmoded ways of thinking.
Our country has come such a long way since the apartheid years yet I still lock horns with (mainly white and older) South Africans who believe the worst of non-white South Africans.
Believe you me, the human propensity for committing acts of evil is universal. It is not limited to a particular ethnic group or socio-economic class. It is just as easy for a white middle class man to take up an axe and murder his family as it is for a poor black man to use a panga to chop up his neighbour.
Skin colour does not make one crime "bloodier" than another.
To all those racist white supremist bigots here in my country. Screw you and the boat you sailed in on. If race bothers you so much go then back to Europe. Or even better. Go live in Orania where you can all commiserate about "die swart gevaar" and "die rooi gevaar" with your buddies while enjoying your braaivleis with Klippies en Coke.
I'm proud to number among the European Africans willing to take a stance while trying to move on from centuries of colonialism. Yes, democratic South Africa still needs a lot of work but for all our faults, we are trying.
