Dealing with disaster - the Japanese way

Mar 13, 2011 17:21

One thing I find quite remarkable - and admirable - in the current situation in Japan is how the people are maintaining order and discipline: Despite worries about food shortages, people are patiently waiting in line for hours to buy some last pieces of food or bottles of drinks.
Furthermore, the water is finally receding and there is no looting going on (at least, there are no reports of such, yet?).

Remember how things were in Haiti after the earthquake. Or what happened in New Orleans after Katrina.

You've got to hand it to the Japanese as a people. They can be damned civilised in the most exceptional of circumstances.
