Soooo, way back in the mists of time, I bought the season 1 DVDs of The Vampire Diaries, and one of the special features was the audio version of the first book.
I never listened to it, because, well, I have zero interest in vampires in general, and teen fiction is... not my thing.
But. Today I had to spend the day doing mind-numbing things, and felt like being told a story while I did them, so I dug out the file and set it going.
...
Ahahahahaha.
I'm only two hours in so far, but, um, yeah.
I am reminded of the TV adaptation of Wire in the Blood, after watching which my sister said "Well, most of the characters had the same names."
EXCEPT HARDLY ANY OF THE CHARACTERS HAVE THE SAME NAMES.
Also, Stefan is about 300 times creepier than he is in the TV version. Although that may be a side-effect of the crazy-bad Italian accent the reader uses for him.
It is interesting how differently Elena is portrayed, though. She doesn't actually act any differently, really, but instead of everyone being all "Elena is TEH MOST CARING AND AWESOME PERSON EVAH" they're all "Elena is kinda mean and manipulative, but we like her anyway."
I prefer this option, thanks.
I may return with more thoughts once I finish listening. If I ever do. And if I don't die from giggling at the fauxtalian accent. Seriously. It's awful.
