Halloween party and Palin Rage

Nov 01, 2008 00:33

Just got back from the MFA Halloween party. One of the other poetry first-years, Allison, and her boyfriend Geoff live on the first floor of this fucking amazing house. It's somewhere between 100-130 years old (there are conflicting dates), the ceilings and doors are at least eleven or twelve feet tall, and there's older wallpaper and crown molding through pretty much the entire thing. Four fireplaces (none work) but all covered with ornate porcelain tile (cherubim and such). 'twas a potluck, so the fare ranged from tamales to BBQ boneless wings to cuban rice and beans. Beautiful.

Now for some epically frightening lulz:

[[Sarah Palin told WMAL-AM radio talk host Chris Plante that she fears her First
Amendment rights may be threatened by "attacks" from reporters who suggest
she is engaging in a negative campaign against Barack Obama:

"If [the media] convince enough voters that that is negative campaigning, for
me to call Barack Obama out on his associations, then I don't know what the
future of our country would be in terms of First Amendment rights and our ability
to ask questions without fear of attacks by the mainstream media."]]

I can't put into words how furious all this fucking bullshit about the "gotcha" media makes me. I'm convinced at this point that M. Night Shyamalan's "The Village" was real, and that Sarah Palin was uprooted from her cottage there. I can't think of any other explanation, given that her fucking degree is in journalism, and that she should have at least a few crumbs of sense when dealing with interviewers. But that's just too fucking much to ask.

Here is someone who thinks criticism from the media is a violation of her First Amendment rights. It would be hilarious if it weren't so horrifyingly stupid. And there are people, fucking millions of them, like my family, who are confronted with this evidence and shrug it off. Or parrot the GOP campaign, saying that it's the fault of the liberal media, even when the idiocy jumps right out of the Republican candidates' mouths. Apparently CNN can just mindfuck Palin now, and force her to say shit devastating not only to her credibility as a VP candidate, but as a fucking American citizen.

If you haven't already, get your asses out there and vote this bitch back to the cold place.
