Yes, looney toons music is going through my head.
I tend to use this forum to vent a lot. Worse ways to do that, I suppose. And it has this advantage over a diary-I don't have to try to read my own handwriting!
But one of the reasons I started this was dipping my toe into the waters of the internet....and I've still never bothered to put up a user pic. Bah. I'll drag myself into the 90's yet!
I honestly forsee bankruptcy in my store's future, all their assurances we're rebounding to the contrary. When shelves are empty because we don't have the time or staff to unpack merchandise...when you see your hours keep shrinking, and the corparate overlords just keep breathing fire at us...
Eh. I've finally reached a different mental state about that. I was worried, freaked out, ranting and frustrated because of not being able to do our jobs.
Now? I shrug. If I'm fired, I'll have a little unemployment. If the business goes belly up and I'm laid off, I'll have a severance package. I'm looking for work now instead of waiting for the ax to fall. If I find something full time with insurance-yippe, happy dance! If the store miraculously defies expectations and turns around-it'll be a pleasant suprise.
Whatever happens, I go in, do my job as best I can, and go home. Letting it all roll off me. Part of my newfound zenlike sense of acceptance is due to how well the other half is doing. From invalid to using a walker-and he can walk a little without it! From his legs scaring me because of how noticable the bone was under the skin, to muscle building back up. Yay! He and kid are off playing chess-again, and I'm just happy they are. I wave and tell them, "Bye! have fun storming the castles!" (tiny chess joke there)
Just got my work schedule for next week-bah. It's funny, I have all this extra time to play on the internet, but somehow no extra time to spend working around the house. ; ) I've gotten caught up on comics, and discovered new ones. Johnny Crossbones is cool. An all ages retro Tintin type of vibe. Nice.
And spending far more time than I should on the mad scientist wars...but all these ideas hit me all at once! I'm secretly plotting out serious stuff for the future( or not so secretly if others are reading this-heh, you still won't know exactly what), Jane's got a new chapter-I think her first post will be up tonight or tomorrow? Soon, anyway. And Tinker and I have started a war between his college and Minerva's. Should prove to be very looneytoon-esque, I hope others jump in on it.
Yeah, I know it's pure escapism.. So what? I'm having fun, writing more than I have in years, and my stress level has gone way down.
And went thrifing with kid yesterday. She likes the thrift stores-she has very eclectic tastes, doesn't want to look like everyone else who shops at the chains, and likes that she gets boatloads more clothes. I've assured her, if she ever doesn't want to, I'm more than okay with it. And she knows I mean that. I wouldn't embarass her, or have her not fit in for the world. But she'll ask me to take her thrifting. I think she likes being able to play with different styles-she's gone from frilliness to raving over finding a union jack tank top, or a lynyrd skynrd shirt. Cute!
I've taught her to be picky about quality. We came home with 32 things for 83 dollars. Including a like new, fancy black leather jacket for her. That's less than 3 dollars an item! And she so lucked into that high ticket leather jacket.
I have a green leather bomber type jacket I picked up for 8 bucks years ago, that I'll never tire of. Heck, I've got a gauzy purple blouse I picked up on my one trip to California many years ago, that's still my favorite article of clothing of all time.
Okay, some of you are probably thinking, "thrift stores? Eww!" And that's cool. We each have different things that trigger our own personal eww factor.
Me-it's more the thrill of finding something lovely and unique that I wouldn't have found at the chains. (and to be honest, I'm not rolling in dough at the moment). Plus I picked up a couple of doodads that could make neat medals. You see, I have this full lenght leather coat I was given that's just begging to be part of a steampunk outfit, for next year's scifi convention...
