Splenda

Mar 09, 2009 14:41

Everyone's favorite non-sugar sugar, sucralose, better known by its marketing name of Splenda, may be acumulating in waste water. This in turn could cause problems for animals which depend on untreated water, as in fish. The study which suggests that this is the case was done by a 17 year old high school student, working at Arizona State. Her research suggests that only exposure to TiO and UV can break down sucralose, and few waste water treatment plants use that method.

Something to consider next time you are shopping for diet soda.
