More than usual.
Hello girls, it's Tuesday and I've spent hours tonight trying to work out classes for the summer & all of next year. I am still working on it. And I will soon have brain damage from all of the times I have/will hit my head on the table. I dread this time, and it happens to me two or three times a year. It is pure torture. I miss high school. In high school we had set classes to take and then we had electives, and that was that. Our counsellors knew what they were talking about & the requirements were the same for everyone. Grade levels were easily defined. Not in college! In college you get a course handbook & are forced to figure things out on your own. It's like the welcoming pamphlets for Hell.
Academic advisors? Regular teachers on staff forced to pull double-duty and are therefore inexperienced in these sorts of things. Mine, especially, is. Don't get me wrong, I love her, she's my prof for 2 courses this semester, but she's not much help for these things.
+ I have to drop my double major for CommArts. Thankfully, I was prepared for this possibility & made sure that the comms courses I took now also counted for the minor, which I have completed & none of those classes have gone to waste. I am smart...sometimes.
+ I will have to give up my dreams of getting my AA, because it would be pointless now. I'll have my BA in a year if all works out well, though. Which it probably won't, but here's hoping.
+ My fall schedule is going to SUCK. I have 3 literature courses, 1 linguistics, & 1 capstone for the major. And maybe a PE course.
+ This will NOT work out well with my work schedule, I'm sure. I'm not even sure I can take all of those classes at once, depending on scheduling conflicts. Oh God I hope I can do this. I can't really afford another semester, you guys.
+ As far as summer goes, my co-worker Jessica has graciously agreed to trade me some hours for those 3 weeks so I can take that pesky philosophy course. My school only offers 17 classes over summer, and I can take about 4 of them. 3 of which I have taken already. Yep, it sure is convenient! And I can't take any more at the community college because I already transferred too many credits.
I am boring you. I am sorry. It is all I can think about, except! The International Nerdwriter Convention this summer. We need dates so we can begin planning accordingly & figure out summer courses if necessary (not me, but I believe Toni & Hilary were thinking about this?). I am looking at it happening over the 4th of July, if possible, I think it would be neat for Jenny to be here during an American holiday. Leave your thoughts in the SAFT please, but get back to us ASAP.
Questions!
1. Do you have to pick your own courses, do you hate it?
2. What sort of things will happen during the INC?
3. How do you feel about Lady Gaga? I love her. So does Neil Gaiman, strangely enough.
4. How awesome is it that Maureen Johnson follows AFP on twitter? Answer: very. (Also the tambourine & marmite conversations between Neil & Amanda are win.
