About two years ago a post was made on
nerdfighters asking if anyone wanted to participate in a collaborative blog, much in the style of the 5AwesomeGirls (and, by extension, Brotherhood2.0). I hesitated, but in the end decided what the hell and posted a comment and threw my hat into the ring. I didn't get the spot. Instead, I received a message from Gaby saying that if I didn't get picked for the first project, that she'd love to have me as part of hers. She was essentially stealing us out from underneath the original poster, but that's okay by me, because it lead to me becoming part of this wonderful project.
The year that followed was full of firsts and getting to know each other. None of us had ever met in person, but we still came to become good friends through our weekly posts, our daily comments, and our hourly tweets. We IMed, texted, and video chatted until we all knew one another. And we're still doing that, which is something for which I am thankful. By the end of the year, some of us even managed to meet up, in person, in Chicago. I met Gaby and Toni and there were a lot of fun times spent at the theatre, the zoo, IHOP, and the train station.
The next year started out where the previous left off, with five girls who were already friends communicating with each other and the small audience they had garnered by this time. And this year was also full of firsts, but they were all more individual, such as the first day at a new university (for everyone but Hilary). As the year drew on, the girls drifted a little, but remained friends through everything. The blog, however, began to suffer some under the heavy demands of school and work and life in general. Posts were missed, punishments were ignored, comments rarely posted. Things had changed, we had changed.
So last week, after posting my blog here, I sent a message out to my fellow nerdwriters, suggesting that after the end of this year, we not continue the blog. It's hard to watch something like this slowly die away and become forgotten. I've had to deal with that before and what I wish I had done then was end things before they trickled down to nothing, so I made the suggestion. The others agreed that, yes, it was time. We all knew it, but no one wanted to say it, until I finally did. The other girls suggested that we stop immediately, instead of trying to make it through the rest of the year, as final projects and exams, along with the holidays, would certainly hinder our posting. And while I would have liked to reach that 2 year marker, I agree. It's time.
And so, two years after everything began, this project comes to a close. I have enjoyed my time here and I'm very glad I got to be a part of this blog while it lasted. Thank you to everyone who made this blog a success in its first and second years. Goodbye.
