Hello readers, it's Tuesday! I have to keep reminding myself of that fact. Today. Is. Tuesday.
Here in the states it's Election Day and I hope you all voted! If you're on the West coast and have yet to do so, go vote now! You still have time! For everyone else: sorry, too late.
I could get really political here, but I'm going to try not to. If you want that, check out my twitter from today and yesterday. Basically, it worries me to think of all the Americans who are placing uneducated votes. Someone today suggested that "educated vote" means "my party is the only party to vote for" and I would argue that that view in and of itself is uneducated. Don't listen to what anyone has to say in terms of who to vote for-not even me! Don't listen to the political ads, for sure. Not that you could learn anything from them anyway. It's too late now, but what I believe people need to do is research the candidates before they vote. Learn who stands for what and why and make your vote based on that. Because, honestly, America at large has no idea what's going on in its government. People still think that Obama is a muslim. (Which, btw, I hate that him being muslim is a problem, but no one cares if he's Christian or not.) People are more likely to be able to tell you which celebrity couples broke up this week than they are able to name all 50 states. And that bothers me. A lot. A lot a lot. Honestly, I've noticed that people across the pond are more interested in our election that Americans actually are and they tend to know more about the candidates. That also bothers me. I'm not the most educated person when it comes to politics, but I do know what the big issues are and who I am voting for and why. I wish I could say the same for the rest of America.
In other non-political news: I am really scared, you guys. Today in senior seminar we spent an hour taking turns talking about our options for what to do after we graduate. I guarantee you, that is the number one question that all of us in that class hate to hear. And we hear it constantly. But to be asked point-blank in a course where learning what you want to do and how to do it is your assignment for the week? That's scary. And then I stayed after class for half an hour to talk more about how to go about writing academically without holding a teaching position. I feel like I have to email him tonight because I didn't say all that I wanted to say and he has a tendency to talk over me. And the fear got rid of most of my coherent thoughts. I'm rambling this week, I apologize.
