"The connection between sex and reproduction has no bearing on sexual perversion. The latter is a concept of psychological, not physiological, interest, and it is a concept that we do not apply to the lower animals, let alone to plants, all of which have reproductive functions that can go astray in various ways. (Think of seedless oranges.) Insofar as we are prepared to regard higher animals as perverted, it is because of their psychological, not their anatomical, similarity to humans. Furthermore, we do not regard as a perversion every deviation from the reproductive function of sex in humans: sterility, miscarriage, contraception, abortion."
...and blah-de-blahblah blah.
Why can't philosophical types ever just say what they want to say and get it over with?
That's part of an article I have to read for my class called Philosophical Issues in Sexuality. I think it's the most controversial class I've ever taken and they seem to have a monopoly on words. Right now we're studying 'sexual perversion'.
Aparently there's going to be a lot of writing too, even though I have yet to discover it. But our grade is based on 3 papers and then a term paper. I think, if i understood him correctly, the professor said that the papers are going to have to be 10 pages...those are going to be just a bundle of fun.
Okay, so the course actually sounds like it's going to be pretty interesting.
Downside: on occasion we have group discussions about love and such and I feel bad because I have no personal experiences to draw off of like everyone else. I straight up told the other people in my discussion group that I know for a fact that I've never been in love so much of what I way will probably be a load of crap. Thankfully they reassured me that my ideas and opinions weren't horrible. I think that's a good thing.
On the flip side, my English class is fucking easy as a slice of delicious apple pie right now. Mostly because it's freshman English and I took it last year. But at least this teacher is more amusing and much nicer. But I'm not entirely sure how much I actually like apple pie.
Also, I'm half-excited half-nervous that Brendan and Joe are coming to visit on Wednesday. It'll be really fun, but it's going to be really weird. We'll see how it all turns out.
