Most of the time when Karen woke up, she did it slowly and almost stubbornly, always trying to fight for another ten minutes of sleep even though she knew there was no reason for her to even get up. This morning was a different matter, however, as she was rolling away from Nick before she was barely awake, and fumbling for something on her bedside table.
Actually, scratch that. Somewhere her bedside table should have been.
That was enough to jolt herself into full awareness, and Karen shut her eyes as she lay on her back. Except it wasn't her back, because she'd gone through a million different ways the island could screw with her, and she knew something was wrong. It was just a matter of figuring out just what was going on this time around.
She slowly opened her eyes and looked around the room from the bed, purposefully keeping her eyes off the other person in bed next to her that wasn't Nick. The room looked pretty damn familiar, and Karen knew if she looked around, she would find any fantasy novel she could think of, and a lightsaber in a drawer.
"Oh, crap."
Karen didn't even bother keeping her voice down, knowing the inevitable awkward mistaken identity talk was coming, whether she liked it or not.
