Sorry about the lack of posts. It's that time again - exams - which means that my life is an ongoing series of books and notes and projects and GAH!

I was in Coquitlam last weekend on a karate trip. It was..... OK. One of the Senseis, Andy (who you might remember from previous ramblings), didn't show because of a combination of his wife getting into a car accident (she's OK), and contracts involving snow plowing? I think?

Anyways, we wound up training all weekend with Sensei Scales. My buddy Marc got his Shodan. I was so damn proud of him - he was by far the best person up there.

(YES I KNOW. HE BEAT ME TO IT. And trust me, I'm getting bloody sick and tired of hearing it ALREADY. Strangely, not from the karate club, but from OTHER PEOPLE WHO WON'T BE NAMED. And yes, it drags up all sorts of frustrations about not having the time to train, and all that other yada yada that keeps me from grading, but I don't kid myself into thinking that any of that actually has to do with Marc, and I'm happy for him. /disclaimer )

Next weekend is the annual club tournament, wherein we find some reason to give each of the kids a medal and make them feel important and special nand yada yada, then beat each other up for awhile and go get drunk afterwards. We're having Marc's Shodan party then, which means I need to write a speach and get ready for some sake.

I began to write on Friday that Mattia introduced me to her friend. Yes, Friend. Like, a real one. And everything. It was completely surreal. Last I checked, the child hadn't yet mastered normal social interactions, and now she has a friend. I was completely aghast. She introduced him thus: "This is Andrew. He likes yellow."

Speaking of Mattia, I saw her on the bus with her mom this morning. (Rant, short version: I don't know where the mom came from, and BB/BS really needs to get over the idea that mentors should be completely cut out of the kid's life other than the 1 hour/week. There's a mom now? There's a sister now? WHAT IS GOING ON?!) I'm not sure what she was doing on the bus at 2:00 on a Wednesday, but she seemed pretty excited about it.
