Well, not exactly yet, but soon! Very soon!
And that whole time change thing snuck up on me again. I'd just gotten around to wondering when it would be when here it is!
Downside: it's gonna be hard to wake up in the morning again, at least until sometime in May.
Upside: I usually get out of work around 6 p.m. so... sun on the drive home! Yay!
Today I held a review session for some of the graduates who are taking their exam. Once I was done, I got some ordering of supplies completed, and then my new work compadre Ina and I bailed out (two hours later than we'd intended) to get some lunch and decompress. Ina is director of the dental assisting program and I really enjoy hanging out with her. She's originally from Scotland and has been teaching for many years.
We went to the Surfrider restaurant right near the campus and I had a broiled crab cake sandwich that I believe is going to become one of my go-to choices for lunch. The crab cake itself was mostly crab meat--the real thing--and not filler like breading. It was served on a soft white bun and the whole thing was totally melt-in-your-mouth delicious. It was served with the tastiest potato salad since my mother's, and I had myself a big ol' margarita on the rocks.
Boy was I happy.
We spent nearly two hours talking about our respective programs and the school management. Coming from the Evil Empire as I do, I am a little jaded: I'm not surprised when there are issues in management. Unfortunately, as a program director, I have to deal with those issues, and can't just keep to my classroom and out of the politics. Fortunately, those politics are not nearly as bad as the ones I remember from my former employer. Ina and I agreed that we simply have to suck it up and deal. Because really, does anything like that ever change?
At the end of our lunch qua dinner, I popped onto the rush hour interstate and managed to slide across all six lanes of traffic into the HOV lane. I felt just a little bad about using the HOV to get around a minor backup, but I popped back out of the lane once I got through that. Took my car to the little auto carwash for a nice rinse, and then got the very last of the mess out of my car from last fall (there were still some stones from one of the plants in the floorboard that needed to be vacuumed up).
It was so nice out. I pulled into my parking space and simply couldn't go inside, so I drove down to the ocean, bought an ice cream, and watched the waves crash on the beach, with my windows down and my sunroof back.
Eventually I came home to my current Friday routine--including Battlestar Galactica--and so now, here I am :)
