I'm really on cloud nine at the moment-- words cannot express how good it is to be back home in Texas. I may not actually like Texas all that much, but it is still home. :) The first thing I noticed after landing in Houston (after a gruelling eleven-and-a-half hour flight) was how friendly everyone was. I missed my connecting flight, and all the

No, I do not need 31 varieties of pasta sauce (in fact, I almost always make my own sauce from scratch and freeze what I don't eat for later), but I just like all the choice I have here. As for the bags, I agree with you completely, and used to use cloth ones anyway even before I moved to Holland.
Never heard of Konmar and we don't have an Edah anywhere near; I always do my shopping at the Vomar and Albert Heijn. Of the two, the Vomar has MUCH better prices and the selection is just as good, if not better, so I only go to AH when I need avocadoes, which the Vomar doesn't carry. Neither store is bad, but they have almost no choice compared to US grocery stores, and there are LOTS of items I can't find there. And I've been to AH stores in Leiden, Amsterdam, Delft, Alkmaar, and Amersfoort in addition to Schagen, so it's not like they're only bad in my little town-- Dutch grocery stores just aren't very impressive. The local Tom Thumb here in Plano, TX has like 3 times the amount of stuff as the biggest grocery store I've seen in Holland. And while Central Market isn't good for "normal" grocery shopping, they have tons of unusual items from all around the world... I'm still looking for an equivalent.
I guess what I'm saying is that a person can live a wonderful life in Holland without ever feeling like they're missing out because they don't have six thousand varieties of brownie mix to choose from, but when you've grown up here in the US and suddenly you're stuck with the revolting Dr. Oetker variety and no other options, then you do miss it. But I'm trying to look on the bright side-- I've been having to make absolutely everything from scratch since I can't buy a mix, brownies and pie crust included, so it's making a better cook out of me. :)
