Urgh, just got something in the mail reminding me that I have to set up an appointment with some official-sounding person to determine what sorts of integration courses I will need to take. The courses are designed to teach me all about Dutch language, society, culture, and all that crud... it sounds so deadly boring that I am half tempted to get ( Read more... )

I think rechts-links-rechts but I muts admit; being a native, I don't really think about it that much ;)

I find it amusing that you find the "met Megan!" such an unusual way to answer a phone; I always get confused when calling the USA and someone I don't expect answers the phone. That way I never know whether I made a mistake in dialing the number or is it maybe just the sister of the person I was trying to reach who answered? :)
I can also never figure out what I am supposed to say; just ask for whomever I want to talk to or just say first "this is Karen, is suchandsuch home?" which sounds a lot worse and uncomfortable than "met Karen, is die en die er?"

It's nice to see you've figured out the way to celebrate a "bizarre" Dutch birthday, talk a lot about the weather because that is always a safe topic to talk about... wonder what we'll talk about when we meet ;)

btw: drop me an email with some dates when you have some room in your schedule for us to get together?

anyway: you'll do fine in your inburgeringscursus and if you get really bored, you can always just take it as an opportunity to see how the Dutch try to explain and make sense out of our "bizarre" bahaviourisms ;)

Links-Rechts-Links.
