For those of you following my Year Long Trying To Buy A Frigging House Saga, I got the keys to my soon-to-be babe-lair (or sad batchelor pad) today. Yay! I'm going to paint sooo much stuff black, silver and, naturally, purple.
However, my morning was somewhat ruined by the solicitor for the Council, with whom I am getting the mortgage for half the flat, and renting the other half. She was adamant that if I sold within X years I would have to pay Y amount of the profit back to the Council (a "clawback"), in a sliding percentage up to 20 years from now. This is the case for the Affordable Housing Scheme, but *not* the Shared Ownership Scheme. We were getting quite irate at each other, as I wasn't going to sign anything while she was saying something I knew to be wrong, whether she was the expert or not, and I was also really starting to doubt myself.
As you can guess, when I got someone from the Council to talk to her, she was talking bollix. But very upsetting to have a professional telling you you are wrong when you are sure you aren't. Good job my degree finally turned out to be useful for something.
