Adrian Quiggle has finished the addition to Lexi's house, and not a day too soon, as summer has drawn to a close and the weather ranges from mild and dry to torrential rains.
Lexi's blockhut now has a seperate bedroom and bathroom, and a roof over the store of firewood.
A functioning bathroom (Badger's Sett's plumbing has started to take off, and the Fairfax house is the second to benefit after Licas', who gets to trial everything first) means no more trekking to the outhouse in the early mornings, or freezing your butt off as the wind whistles underneath the wooden box-with-a-hole that functioned as a toilet. Adrian is more than happy to load the last bit of dirt on what used to be the latrine pit.
Suzuki, Lexi's dog, is having some difficulties adjusting to her new owners. She's a little apprehensive of Adrian...
... and sees Lexi's favourite chairs as convenient chew toys.
Adrian: "No! Bad dog! You pee outside the house! Figures Licas would saddle us with his unwanted pups. Well-trained dog my lily-white buttocks..."
Suzuki is banned from the house for now, and has to make her bed out of a pile of straw at the back of the hut. She doesn't seem to mind, and at least she's out of the wind and dry.
For Adrian, life at Lexi's is considerably more enjoyable than the entirety of his time in Badger's Sett up to now. He's been shifted around so much because of the numerous conflicts and household shuffles, and lived with Sims that either ignored him (Nicolai) or used them as a maid (Licas), that just knowing he's got a permanent place to stay and someone who actually wants him there is pretty damn awesome.
He's not exactly shy about communicating his joy and gratitude, either.
Going to sleep every night in his own bed, with his girl snuggled up to him... Yep, life has definitely improved.
That 'own' bed is literal, as Adrian has been honing his carpentry skills by crafting new furniture for the blockhut. He's moved his workbench from Licas' scrapyard to the back of the house, and on dry days spends his time measuring, sawing, drilling, hammering and fitting.
The result is rather clunky and favours sturdiness over elegance (not to mention that if you move too fast your butt will be full of splinters), but practice makes perfect.
Badger's Sett will be going through its first winter soon, and Adrian is in charge of making sure everyone's dwellings are ready for the cold and harsh weather.
Oswald: "So you're sure my babies won't get cold, even if we're snowed in?"
Adrian: "We insulated the place as best as we could. You might want to stick around the fireplace, though, and bundle up. You can only do so much with wood, straw and clay. It'll need a rebuild once we have access to some better materials, but then all of our places do. How's the harvest coming on anyway?"
Oswald: "We haven't had the best of crops, but we should make it through winter with our stores and the stuff we got from the supply drop. June says it's going to be a real cold winter, though. Probably heard it from the potatoes or something. I swear that girl talks to all our vegetables when she thinks I'm not looking."
Lexi's hut has become Headquarters for Badger's Sett budding government, which is in session for the first time today. She's still in charge, but has opted to take on Yelena and Elend as her advisers.
Yelena: "It sure is great that you could join us, Elend. I honestly don't know what we'd do without you."
Lexi: "Yelena's right, Elend. We are ever so pleased that the Council saw fit to send you to help us out. I'm glad we managed to sort out that little kerfuffle when you and Faelyn arrived. When they explained everything... well, when YOU explained everything... When did we speak to your Council? I can't quite seem to remember..."
Elend: "Ahaha, of course you spoke to the Council, and they explained everything just fine. Isn't that all that matters?" *surreptitious hand movements under table*
Lexi: "Ah... yes, just fine. Not really important anyway."
Yelena: "...did your crotch just sparkle?"
Elend: "Did my... of course not, are you seeing things or something?"
Lexi: "Just fine. All that matters." *shakes head* "Anyway, we'd better get down to business. This town isn't going to run itself!"
Elend: "Quite right, Ms. Fairfax! There were a couple of things that I think we should address..."
Yelena: I could have sworn I saw something sparkle under that table...
