Badger's Sett Week 1 - Jones

Feb 13, 2013 10:55

June Jones is the settlement's expert on farming. She's a big supporter of the homestead movement, and excited to put theory into practice, helping Badger's Sett to become a self-sufficient community. She's brought along an extensive seed catalogue, a variety of farming equipment (something that Lexi gave priority when deciding on what was brought along) and her dog Bora.

Unfortunately for June, the spring in which the settlers arrived is proving to be a very wet one. She's hopeful that summer will be better, but it's still not an ideal start for her vegetable plot. She hopes the little seedlings won't wash away in the rain, or die because they don't get enough sunlight.

Ella Umber is June's housemate, replacing Adrian Quiggle when she demanded to live anywhere else but with Licas Rolfe. Ella isn't the most outdoorsy of people, preferring to stay inside and devote time to her studies. She's the town's scientist, and has been helping out with the water collection system, providing the chemicals needed to purify the town's water supply.

June's OTH is cooking, which comes in handy when having people over for dinner. She's keen to give Oswald a better cuisine experience than she had to endure when he invited her over. Not like that's going to be hard, though. She invited over Nikolai Baudelaire as well, on Ella's insistence.

Oswald: "June, this food is delicious! I had no idea you were such a good cook."

June: "Oh, thank you! The meat's a bit chewy - can't help that with the canned stuff - and the vegetables aren't exactly fresh, but just you wait until my first crop comes in!"

Oswald: "It's perfect. Really. I've been having nothing but Nora's cooking, this is a feast in comparison."

After dinner (and a couple of insistent kicks under the table from June), Ella excused herself from the company, dragging Nikolai with her to 'get some fresh air', despite his protestations that fresh air is pretty much all there is in Badger's Sett. Leaving June and Oswald alone for some quality time.

Meanwhile, outside in the fresh air, it's been pouring it down, causing Ella and Nikolai to flee to the shed for shelter.

This was obviously the moment for Ella to finally make her move.

Ella: "It's so cold in here!"

Nikolai: "It is rather chilly. Would you like my sweater?"

Ella: "I'd rather you warm me up yourself..."

Nikolai: "...eh?"

Well, he got there eventually.

With the crops (and weeds) growing, June has enlisted Ella's help with the gardening. She hasn't been feeling too well lately, being nauseous in the mornings and getting exhausted easily.

June: "... and I keep craving the strangest things. Like pickles. Straight out of the jar."

Ella: "That doen't sound that strange."

June: "...with whipped cream."

Worried about her strange symptoms, June's been reading up on what could cause them.

June: "G-goodness!"

A little bump appearing not much later confirms June's suspicions: her roll in the hay with Oswald will soon bear fruit.

June: "Oswald, we need to talk about something."

Oswald: "Sure, what's up?"

June: "I'm... pregnant."

Oswald: "YOU'RE WHAT?"

June: "I'm sorry! I thought we'd been careful... But I've seen Nora about it and she had some pregnancy tests... "

Oswald: "Don't be sorry! I was just, well, not really expecting that."

June: "You're not mad?"

Oswald: "Why would I be mad at you? I didn't really plan on uh, being a dad quite this soon, but we'll just have to roll with it."

Oswald: "In fact, if you're going to have my child, I insist on doing the right thing. June Jones... would you marry me?"

June: *incomprehensible squeals*

Oswald: "Haha, I'll take that as a yes!"
