It strikes me that many people might not know exactly what an agent does all day, and it's been a while since I talked about it. Oh, yes, you know we read manuscripts, hopefully sign on clients, and sell books to publishing houses. But really, there are so many little tasks that make up this job. It's part of what I love about it, other than the ( Read more... )

I actually found that the elliptical machine was better for this purpose than the treadmill, because you're closer to the controls where you set the manuscript, and surprisingly you move up and down less. $0.02.

You go girl!

Right. We had this discussion before, and I did give it a try. The only trouble is that I can't actually breathe on the eliptical machine for more than five minutes, so there's not much point in reading while I'm on there. Maybe in six months when I'm not in such lousy shape...

In six months you will be doing aerobics while reading manuscripts. Jazzercise. People will watch the Boston Marathoners flash by and ask each other, "Did I just see contestant #3025 holding up a ream of paper while running?"

Jennifer's right--the elliptical machine is MUCH easier to read on. Reading on the treadmill gives me a headache once I get past a certain speed. Reading while doing cardio on there is freaking impossible.

Hmm. It just occurred to me that e-books and the readers could use the gym as a selling point. Is it possible to enlarge the print on any of the readers? That would be awesome.

See above about the state of my couch-potato-ness. Good point about e-books, though. I believe they do have a way to adjust the font on some of them. Personally, I'm so glad to get away from the computer, though, that I'd rather read hard copy. But then, that's just me.

Ha...I do the same thing. All our submissions are hard copy so I grab a stack of 15 or so and hit the gym. I look strange unloading piles of papers on to the elliptical but hey, at least I'm getting my work done.

I tried once to make notes on a manuscript while on the elliptical. It looked like a drunk person was trying to be intellectual when I looked at it later. :) Haha.
