One Day

One Day

Dawn breaks clean and bright;
Light bathes the world.
But I am blind.
In my blindness all things are lovely.

Morning comes in strength and glory,
I feel its warmth on my skin.
But I cannot see,
And that sight brings tears to my eyes.

The light begins to fade.
With the clouding of the skies
My eyes become clear.
Bright things begin to rust.

Afternoon comes with whispering intensity
And in the rainy gloom
The world takes shape.
Even in its gloom the world is a wonder.

It is evening now
And the day has passed.
But I live now.
The vastness coalesces into a pinpoint.

Night falls with the ringing finality of a headsman’s axe.
My revelation ends.
I fade into sleep.
All lies in perfect silence.
