my messenger sn...

So, I have this conversation with almost everyone I talk to who's even remotely as geeky as I am.  My screen name.  Neotatsu.  Everyone *ALWAYS* tells me when I give it to them "I love Akira too!".  And, it makes me laugh.  The first time someone told me that, I'd never even seen the show.

Of course, that friend made me watch it.  And, I liked it, but I have only seen it once since then.  I think it's the sn that killed it for me.  I'm an otaku for sure, but, not a fanboy of akira using a sn from it.  But, it does bring up the story of how I  happened to create this sn when I was in 10th grade.

I took first year Japanese that year.  it was a fun class for me.  The first day, they wanted us to come up with a Japanese name.  I chose Tatsuo, it means dragon man, or man of the dragon.  When leaving that class going to my biology class, I was distracted talking to the exchange students (And me the nerdy little kid who loved anime -_-).  The result was the bell ringing, and me still having to find where my next class was!

I ran off, and tripped on the stairs, causing me to roll down 4 or five of them.  When I hit the bottom, I popped up and kept running.  (I was after all a determined little nerd on his first day in highschool, and his first day back in a real school in years)

The exchange students saw it, and all giggled and talked about it (Call it blushing?  I thought I was gonna burst into flame runnin to class.  Didn't help being the last to show up - late - in the next class)  The next day, the teacher handed out the kanji the exchange students had written us for our japanese names.  Mine said "tetsuo" not "tatsuo"..   Tetsuo means man of steel, basically.

Apparantly they decided it was a fated name.  I like it now.  Then, I hated it..  I was determined to use my own.  Perhaps that's why, in my fourth period class I created a new screen name for my multimedia class.  Tatsuo was taken.  I thought, how can I still use this?  I refuse to use numbers.  THen it came to me!  Watching some anime or another, someone said 'neo tokyo'.  It was decided.  The combination suited my dorky tastes, and it has been mine ever since.

There are actually many acounts I have today that have "32" on the end.  This usually isn't because soemone else had the name already.  Usually it's because *I* had the name, and forgot the password, or decided to start fresh.  /shrug

The result of this post is finally curing something that's been bothering me for a long time.  I'm going to get the kanji for Tetsuo as me first tattoo. Woo
