Crazy day

Feb 27, 2007 22:07

Kay, today was just insane. It started normally enough, normal working schedule, normal work area, it started to be an easy day. Until about 2:15.

Every day, I've got a time to change the trash cans, today it was at 2:30. So at about quarter til, I decided to start heading back to get the tub to put the full trash bags in, and a lady who works there asked me if I happened to have a grabber. It's a long pole that has a squeeze handle and two prongs that grab things. Anyway, I didn't, but I said I'd try to get whatever it was with my broom handle. A guest had dropped their hat into the Gibbons exhibit.

I couldn't reach it, so I said I'd be back with the grabber and the man whose hat it was and his family were like, sorry for the trouble. No big, I say. So I find someone who knows where the grabber is and they help me get it. It's taller than I am. So I come out with this thing, grab the hat easily and return it to it's owner. He thanks me several times and again I'm like no big. But as I start to walk away, they lady worker that had grabbed me handed me a card. I'm like, okay... thanks.

After I return the grabber the guy who helped me find the grabber asks me jokingly if I got a tip for getting the hat. I said no, but I did get the card. I handed it to him and he's like, whoa! You helped a famous person! I go, What?!

So yeah, I helped a famous person get his hat back, but I've no clue who it was. All the card said was: Thank you for helping the VIP tours.

But no, the day just keeps getting better. So now I'm running kinda late, but there are no bags in the tub so I run in the closet to get some. And on the way out, I trip and fall spectacularly. I fell on my right shoulder and rolled over on my back, legs up in the air. I started laughing at how stupid I looked to all the people who came running out of the break room after I shouted. I had to tell several people I was fine, and now really late on the trash run. But it wasn't until halfway through the trash run that the adrenaline wore off and my shoulder starts hurting (it still does).

But why stop there. Since I was late on the trash run, I missed my break, but whatever. I had about 10 minutes before the parade came through, so I decided to check the rout before they came to make sure it was clean. As I'm walking through, I see this rock that shines funny. It looks like sheet rock, but curved slightly, and as I said, it was shiny. So I decided to sweep it up. When I do, it makes a clink noise like glass. I realize that it's not rock, it's glass, and I can see more of it shattered all over the street. So I'm desperately trying to sweep up all this glass that's blending into the rock ground as the parade gets closer.

I do, and as I'm walking away, I mention it to two of the parade crowd control workers. The two ladies wanted to see the glass, so as I go to point to it with my broom and succeed in accidentally whacking one of them in the face with the other end. I felt horrible for doing that, but the lady told me it was fine. The two recognized the glass as one of the lamp light covers that line the streets. Someone had apparently kicked it in. I was thanked so many times for finding that glass before the parade came through, and the broken lamp was reported in.

Sorry that was so long. But that was my wild day today.

PS- As it has been said by others, the countdown has begun, 4 days left now! Almost 3!
