Just came back from a very depressing gathering. I recently discovered that someone who used to go to my High School was one of the first people killed in the recent VT Shootings. I had originally heard she was younger and from my brothers graduating class. But it would seem she actually graduated with my class. Her name was Julia Pryde. I honestly didn't know her, however it would seem a few people I still know from High School knew her well and liked her a lot. At the ceremony, which was held on my High School's football field, well over 300 people showed. It was good to see so many people showing support. The bleachers were packed with people holding candles and so was one side of the bleachers. Her whole family was there including a lot of her friends. They all spoke about Julia and how they would remember her. I learned that she was a straight A student and was on her way to being apart of a Clean Water group which would be going to Africa very soon. This was her final year of graduate school and she already had the job lined up.
I am pretty bummed, and also equally ticked off. Even though I didn't know this girl personally it sounded like she was a really awesome person, with a great self-made future. Then along comes some crazy disgruntled kid and ends her life along with many others possibly just like her. It's just not fair. There were so many warning signs that should have stopped this from happening. Why do people do things like this? How could this guy be such a selfless jerk? Ah, I'm just going in circles now. I guess I should be thankful that none of my family or friends were hurt. When things like this happen it really reminds you how much you care about the people in your life.
My Thought of the Day:
When are things like this going to stop happening to good people?
